didn't remember that, what did Lemmy say?
He said the Melvins did the worst version of The Green Manalishi he had ever heard.

Lemmy was so wrong there it was insane.

Maybe it was the only version Lemy ever heard. Then his statement couldn't be wrong.

When I was fourteen, Check Your Head and Ill Communication were pretty much my life. I still like those records, but they unquestionably sound dated. I never really cared for License to Ill or Paul's Boutique. Even the Beastie Boys publicly apologized for those records. Even though I don't care for that stuff, I think it is very silly to make a public apology. That was hard for me to let go.
But, the Beastie Boys have no shortage of celebrity fans willing to preach their greatness. Last time I counted, the Warlock Pinchers have one. The world can probably let them have one guy, in the public eye, talking about how much better he thinks they are than the Beastie Boys.

QuoteHe has a point about the Beastie Boys pretending to be socially conscious.  It's completely hypocritical.

That's just not true.  The whole License to Ill, "Fight for Your Right...", frat-rap shit was an image concocted by Rick Rubin.  The Beasties never wanted to be "that" band, which is why License to Ill was the first and last of it's kind from them.  Also, people mature.  Think Buzz was socially conscious or sober when he was 20?  No.

And personally, Paul's Boutique is a fantastic record.

So the fact that Buzz spoke his mind now turns you off to his music even though you begin your post by stating you are a fan of the Melvins? :?

Why do you have to pick a side?  You can't like both?  Who gives a hoot if he doesn't care for the Beastie Boys.  He has a point about the Beastie Boys pretending to be socially conscious.  It's completely hypocritical.

I think Paul's Boutique is a pretty good album.  I'm not a huge fan of the Beastie Boys but guess what bud, YOU can decide what's best for YOU and Buzzo can decide what's BEST for HIM.  Chances are you may not see eye to eye with many other bands you dig.

I'm just sayin'.  Different people have different opinions about all sorta things, amigo.

Um, where did I say it turned me off their music? Here, I'll save you the time, I didn't say it. My point was about his nastiness & inaccuracy. And I'm pretty sure I made the point that it's all about opinions. Oh, and I'm completely aware that a lot folk from bands that I like are/could be utter twunts. I'm not a child you know.

My mistake.  I thought you initially griped about Buzzo's opinion turning you off to The Melvins and said something about how he was only interested in money.  I stand corrected if that was not the case.  Maybe it was another person who posted after Buzz expressed HIS opinion about the Beastie Boys.  Fight for your right to party amigo.  I won't stop you.

MrLuck87

I stumbled across a forum of pissed off Beastie Boys fans earlier today.

It looks like one of them wanted to raid our board at some point.

Doubt it. Fuck, Hawkwind probably toured w/ Fleetwood Mac when Peter Green was still in the band. Lemmy is great, but his taste in modern music sucks. Look at who's opened and toured with Motorhead in the last 15 yrs. It's sort of embarrassing.

As far as Buzz vs. Beastie Boys, he's right, but I still enjoy Ill Communication & Check Your Head now and again. Ill Comm. is garbage, but it was cool as a 7th grader. I've honestly never heard the Paul's Boutique album, and I don't care to check it out now.

Metalhead Cow

I really thought that was a great interview and then I read all those comments calling Buzz an asshole.  :? Caught me off guard
