Anticipation out of control, nerves a'shakin'!

FUUUUUAAAAAAACKKKK!!!! Pac-Man and Q-Bert nearly gave me a stroke!

But nontheless, best show at Zanzabar since Mike Watt! The merch booth had a plethora of 7-inches and the Fantomas/Melvins split. Oh, and they had the 10" which people were scooping up left and right! I got the 10" and a shirt... and something else! Food and stories were shared at the Zanzabar and my lungs took a cheap shot with the phrase "Phlegm McMahon".

So the night began around 9:15 with Virginia native and Louisville musician Jonathan Glen Wood. Lately he's been playing with Freakwater guitarist Catherine Irwin, dabbling in dark country with hints of psychedelia in Old Baby and Jaye Jayle and even going experimental like every Louisville musician ever. Anyways, his set may have been the most solid, soothing performance I seen him do. It favored country with hints of eerie western emptiness. thirty minutes passed and his set was satisfying. Then the venue got more packed toward the 10:00 hour.

Then at ten sharp Buzz takes the stage, banter a ready. Someone asked for "Honey Bucket" and "June Bug", to which he said "That's not happening. Maybe next tour I'll do all requests." The crowd was rowdy but Buzz naturally flowed with quick-witted comedy and banter. Boris opened the set and the vocal transitions of heavy to light in the opening lines put fucking chills down my spine. HOLY SHIT. Buzz alluded to an "Asshole Story" and a "Hero Story". The setlist progressed on with most of what you've heard already but the Dave Grohl story got really interesting.

When Buzz mentioned why Dave left Scream someone quipped "Family", to which Buzz responded "Well, Charles Manson had a family too but you didn't see him quit.". The crowd laughed at the story until one guy quipped "Dave's a douche" to which Buzz defended "Nah. Dave's alright. Dave's gotta do for what Dave's gotta do.". The follow-up story about Iggy Pop cutting a set short because of Weezer was fucking awesome and a piece of poetic justice.

Overall from the first note to the last it was utterly battering and something I will thoroughly enjoy a second time around in Indianapolis if I can make it. Buzz stayed after to sign autographs and take photos/chat. He marked out big time when my friend Marcus brought him a copy of the screenprinted Senile Animal, stating it was a "test pressing" and "Me and my wife make these at our house!".

Then I brought my Bullhead LP to sign and he joked "I'll be happy to sign this. Is this band any good?"

Night has been made.

We Are Doomed is fucking amazing. Sounds like he's really found his sweet spot on the acoustic, just a killer version of that song. Thanks for the videos!
