Twenty-four hours removed from the Nashville show and it was time to take myself and some friends on for a hometown gig. We get to the ballroom around 7:30 and the crowd is somewhat scattered around. Took the time to pick up some merch (Melvins Spiderland drawing, Middle-Aged Rebel and the Le Butcherettes LP.) and stand around cracking jokes and vaguely describing the show to friends. Plenty of friends showed up but I just didn't have the time to chit-chat with everyone. This isn't Metal Monday, it's Melvins Monday! Once 8 o'clock hit...

Teri Gender Bender takes the stage, speaks some lovely Spanish dialect and stomps. And stomps. And stomps. Stomps into the opening number quite frankly! This was different from Nashville but in a good way as it left people who hadn't seen this totally confused but intrigued! The set again was a goddamned scorcher though the major difference was some of the stage mannerisms of Teri. More drawn-out screams, fish-hooking her own face and kicking the shoes off to stand on the Os Cuniforme (Oh, the fun with anatomy and wikipedia!) of the toes. Not the tips but past that! Never have I spent so much time watching someone's feet since Buzzo on the acoustic tour! A lot of the crowd seemed to be really into it for the most part as they played through nine solid songs. My friends were awestruck and at times in hysterics. Overall realizing she's doing stuff like this every single night for like a month straight, give or take a day, exudes nothing but respect.

Ah, that Sweet Leaf intro was really nice as the Melvins came onto the stage for "Hag Me". I'd be willing to say there were subtle differences to the show last night too, namely playing Captain Comedown and the way Pinkus man-handled that bass. If you seen the feed you seen him rising it up and slamming it on his thigh, slapping it seemingly in mid-air. The dude has full control and confidence in spanking the four-string aluminum plank to make for an awesome compliment to Buzzo's guitar hammerings. Of course Dale Crover absolutely destroyed it on the skins again. Watching from Buzzo's side and really getting a look at his face for "Moving to Florida" made it that much funnier to watch. Buzz looked like he was having a great time on stage! I was thinking we'd get the entire "We Are Doomed" but that wasn't the case as hearing Youth of America again was more than fine for me. Unsurprisingly the ending with Teri Gender Bender had the guys gawking and the girls squealing.

In closing, Melvins Monday absolutely ruled. The drive home had no fog or three hours of listening to Freak Puke on repeat through the middle of the night but White Castle sliders as Buzzo had inspired us to. Indianapolis is next!

Stallion is right. Good but not best. This is forever ZZZZ best! The peak era of the band for me. It was a steady downward stroll from here on out.
