I don't want to re-rail the thread, but I've come to terms with the fact that there is no way at this point to collect (or afford) everything they put out.
At this point if I own at least one version of their records on vinyl I'm a happy man.

that has been my guideline right when I started collecting melvins vinyl. I have been very happy with it. This way I am able to get like 9 out of 10 items from the band / shoxop and can avoid flipper prices.
I like ebay and discogs and I happily pay a high price for a record that is rare and out of print for years, i.e. based on longterm aftermarket prices. with melvins records the aftermarket is just too crazy for me currently.

I would love to see them now do some of this uber limited in selected countries now. Pick say some obscure place in Germany, then some backwoods place in Australia and so on. I'm sure they could move the 20 odd amount they have been doing lately.
I heard their periods attract bears

on many levels I agree.   the days of the MELVINS completest are long dead.      I'll go ahead and grandfather in the crybaby considering its probably the most impressive collection I've ever seen.    but it seems completism is obviously out of reach.  I have mixed feelings about that sales strategy.    mixed feelings that mean SQUAT until sales slow.    the merch table can't keep up with one town to the next so I guess SQUAT it is.      and yes, I did buy a letterpress on this tour.   architect of my own destruction.

its not possible to be a completist.  First, you need to define what a completist means.  Do you collect every poster, or every variant vinyl release, every test pressing, live recording, or band exclusive? Just collecting vinyl alone, the last few months would have cost you over $700 for all of the Houdini, stoner, and prick variants.
The smart thing about so many expensive releases is this: people who buy them feel good about supporting a band they like, having something that is 'rare', and the band makes a ton of money.

why do we collect in the first place?   on some level it's to say "I have this and you don't".    there has to be a pinnacle to that.

I've had a great run the last 2 years especially, but I'm done. Life dictates it. Not worth having all this stuff and living under the freeway overpass.  :?

Don't think of it is completing a collection, think of it is a donation to this hardworking band. Like a Kickstarter project with donation benefits.
