Melvins till death!

A bit morose perhaps, but occasionally i wonder to myself about what will happen when one of the Melvins dies. Out of Buzz or Dale who would be left. I don't write this to cause trouble - im just curious in thinking over that thought. The same as i wonder who will be the last remaining Beatle or something. It does seem like the band intend to carry on "until the wheels come off" as Buzz said once.

Personally i always think that if Dale died first, Melvins would continue. I don't know in what form of course but i suspect Buzz wouldn't call it quits. He would find a way around it either with Coady or some other drummer. Whereas if Buzz was to die first i think that would spell the end of the band being that he is the fundamental songwriter. I can imagine Dale doing more of his solo work or drumming with the bands he sidelines with. Maybe him even starting off a new project of something.

What do you guys think would/might happen?

Im not so sure, but that's certainly possible. Perhaps he would go further down the "King Buzzo" route with more solo type releases.

I think of this quite often....ESPECIALLY when some popular artist dies.

If Dale died Melvins wouldn't. He's not the first Melvins drummer and he won't be the last...UNLESS....Buzzo dies.

If Buzzo dies obviously Melvins are over.

Whatever happens even at this stage we've had a great fucking run! How many folks favourite bands still kick major ass in the studio & the venue after this many years? Not many....

I think it is interesting to say what makes a band. I guess i thought of this topic when reading recently about Brainiac and how when the singer died that killed off the band too. But then it really is a case by case basis really. Some members in bands seem interchangable while others too dependent on individuals. Although not death related, it is funny to think about a band like Napalm Death who have no original members in their line-up.

I agree with Pepsi Mike here. Dale is as important to the sound of the Melvins as Buzz - neither of them are replaceable. Dale pioneered the drumming style that he displayed in full during the first 20 years of their existence (with soooooo many copy cats out there). Buzz would certainly continue to do music because it is his career, as would Dale. They would either create music under their own names or start a new band. I am hoping they both live to be really, really old bastards that continue to make music into their 90s.

Wow! In today's age it's definitely do-able! It would be real interesting to see what changes (if any) would come from having the band last that long. Fascinating to see the type of music they might put out at an older age. I imagine something closer to Melvins Lite or the laidback, less physically demanding tracks like 'Black Heath' are or some noise releases. All would be fine by me.

I know some people here state the band only write new albums so they can tour. If this is indeed the case, i presume that touring is one area which they would obviously cut back on. So perhaps new releases wouldn't necessarily arrive beyond that point.
