I was in Japan for all 3 shows of the Melvins / High On Fire / Unearthly Trance shows.

The show the night before in Nagoya was awesome, all 3 bands played perfect sets in a club that held around 300 people at most.

When the quake hit, I was in my hotel on the 33rd floor, looking out my window expecting to see Tokyo crumbling, while my room listed from side-to-side making cracking noises, every drawer and door was opening and slamming closed.

I ran down 33 flights of stairs and over to the club, because I knew that the bands had an interpreter, since all the service announcements were in Japanese. Man, was I happy to spot Buzz's afro amongst the crowd of people on the street! All three bands moved up the street, trying to use their phones. Even though nobody knew what the fuck was going on, it was calming to be amongst people that spoke English.

Biggest earthquake in Tokyo history aside, the tour was awesome, Japan is very, very cool. I hope this line-up tours again!

First New Zealand, now Japan. That's how heavy the Melvins are... everywhere they go, the earth shakes.

Thing is Dale laughs in the face of mother nature. He causes havoc across the globe, yet the only damage he sustains is his dislocated finger! Nature better be runnin' scared i tell thee.

yes it is a crazy world.
more of a reason to hock all the melvins merch we can get our dirty hands on.

And this is the story of the year. very cool. Melvins are magnets for natural disasters.
