toys of the melvins

thanks for the info andy. on a related subject how many here play guitar or bass or anything at all, and how many have put "electronics" yup to there insturments my personal favorite is a electric tooth brush.this is why i wanna know what adam and the melvins use so they can give some hints as to what to go to for weird noises. also power drills can be fun but very very useless.

I am a fan of the electric toothbrush too! Especially when it's running out of batteries. However I have yet to put it into a song without it sounding stupid.

thats kool. your the first person i've met whose tried that i use a crest one and personally i like it better full power cause it comes through ALOT louder but i use strat pickups because my 7 string (with humbucker) is "out of servise right now". what else have you tried i've only done tv remotes , clock radios (first time i tried it "smells like teen spirit" played),tooth brush, shaver, and drill

also have you tried other types of remotes the one i tried was a magnavox and had 3 modes first was a shutter sounding thing and the last was a fuzzy buzz sorta sound and the shutter sound was kool with delay and flanger but other then that it was like the drill very monouseful

i posted on guitargeek about this.  it looks like an electro harmonix box, I guess James Iha used to do something similar.

the Smashing pumpkins, Sonic youth, and cave in are three bands that I can think of that used toy space guns next to their pickups. you can get some pretty cool sounds doing that.

i think the guitarist from white zombie used to yell into their pickup.

thanks demangone i'll look into that now i have a shitload of things to try i gotta fill out the free i-pod thing gotta go to guitar center and try that marshall micro stack and now i gotta go to guitar geek and look that up but can you tell me where to look man?

well all the replies on guitargeek brought me to the same conclusion that i started with, it's an ehx box.  no one knew which one it was, or if it might have just looked like an ehx effect.   anyway my post is in their forum under complete that rig.

I don't think that it's anything from Electro Harmonix...if you notice the knobs are all on the front side of the pedal...not the top. The only pedal that I can find to compare it to is the Prescription Electronics pedal "The Experience." http://www.fuzzbox.com/peipkexp.htm

I don't think that's what it was though. I've been up close to Adam at four of the shows that he had it...the box is black and there are no distinct markings on it.

More than likely it's a custom pedal. He has someone do a lot of other custom work (custom pickups, etc. etc.)

thanks for the info can you tell me what type of sound it made whne adam messed with the box or what times during the songs he messed with it or even what songs he did it for?
