The London gig!

Good Lord! It feels like I've been in some religious trance...Kevin came back to play bass so it looks like he's back in the band! I thought that they had Dave Scott Stone with them but the chap I took to be him might just have been a smartly dressed roadie...most exciting!

The support bands were a mixed bag with the Capricorns' set of largely instrumental doom being pretty cool and the Early Men being one of the shitest bands I've ever seen...seriously, that singing was so weak and the whole set was as generic "metal" as fuck...But anyway, I was there for one thing...

The setlist was awesome with a load of old faves...let's have a think:

And they ended with Night Goat! ENDED WITH NIGHT GOAT! Night Goat's my favourite song ever, possibly, so that was perfect...Buzz had a dig at Muhammed Ali being disabled and Hunter Thompson for being dead while doing his one bit of banter...Generally they didn't pause between songs and played for about 80 mins...I'm glad the bloke behind me was short otherwise he would've had a face full of hair all night long...Gig of the year? Why not, after all there's only one Melvins. Anyway excuse the shittiness of my report as I'm tired and stoned...

Oh, and hello to the Scottish chap who I hung out with...sorry I didn't say cheerio but I had to get to the cloak room to catch my train. Hope you had fun, too mate.

There's another thread about this on the show reviews board. Someone on there reckoned that the 1st song with Yow was "Chrome".

I thought that guy helping them set up was DSS too. In fact, as I saw him before Kevin, I assumed he was gonna be on bass. And then when they introduced the special guest as someone who knew Slint and started saying "David..." I was sure it'd be David Scott Stone, not David Yow!

Last time Melvins were in London was Nov or Dec 2003, doing the Cameron Jamie films, and before that they supported Tomahawk earlier that year. This was their 1st "proper" London gig in a while.

And yeah, Night Goat fucking ruled.

I couldn't see any to be honest. The only merch I saw was for Early Man who are seriously the worst band I've seen live. Even Buzz and Dale were stood on the side of the stage laughing about them. (Well thats what it looked like to me)

Was Little Judas Chongo in the setlist, I can't remember but I know 2 songs were played off HAT. Also Tipping The Lion and ZZZZ Best I think.

Yeah, Little Judas Chongo was on the setlist...I couldn't remember the title on the night. I don't remember them doing Tipping...but I could be wrong...

and i was standing there with Lunica and Green Honey, when i suddenly saw a guy standing just a little to my left...and then i saw it was YOW!

and then a few minutes after, MACKIE walked past me!
I was in heaven!

and when the melvins started to play my jaw dropped down to the floor and it has been that way since...im thniking about getting a doctor to look at it.

Haha! No problem, man. It was very cool to see yourself, Lunica and Green Honey. I'm glad I got to thank you in the flesh for sharing those albums with me last year.
