Being an engineer is a job. Simple fact. In order to pay the rent and keep cost of maintaining a studio, he takes jobs with major labels. He has several interviews and discussions on this subject. As a job, he cannot afford to let "childish feelings" towards music, hinder his work.

Greasy Statement

completely understandable, but at the same time he should realize that for some people being in a band is a job as well and sometimes signing is a means to finally make some sort of a living. granted, 99.9% of the time they get the shaft, but some have made it out of that grind relatively unscathed(or at least not completely destroyed). it's certainly beneficial to have a good head for business to survive being a musician. same for any art, unfortunately...
