The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.

I dig that stuff too.  My girlfriend recently turned me on to Lola Versus the Powerman and Village Green society.  I'm really digging those to lately.  They go from solid songs to solid kooky songs and back.  Great early day commuter music.

You need Something Else, Arthur, Muswell Hillbillies, and Everbodys in Showbiz.  Immediately.

"It's slightly less menacing, yet without a discernible drop in power, which should go down well in the burbs without alienating their hipster metal following."

I was talking about this the other day with a friend.  Last decade the Melvins were incorrectly labeled as grunge and now they are incorrectly being labeled as hipster metal.

I think Prindle is a hoot and a good source for when you want to buy your first of a gazillion the fall or swans album.  He is goofy but upfront about what is hack in rock journalism.  Despite the fact that I disagree with him plenty, he is consistent enough for me to gauge my tastes against his and use him for album advice.  That is the definition of what a helpful reviewer is.  He can spit and sputter nonsense all he wants.  Many moons ago I discerned from his page that I would enjoy pure/head more than goat for my first jesus lizard album, even though his preference was reversed.

Big surprise. It seems that most album reviews are hardly about the album itself, but rather give a poor description of the band the Melvins, trying to justify why the Melvins are still around, what they've done, how influential they've been, etc., and that was probably all googled together. I think this reviewer used 10 - 20 words to try to describe the actual album, that lazy sod.

Still for that idiot site a 7.0 is quite high. Usually albums that are any higher have Radiohead printed in the album art somewhere.

This review reminds me of some sport commentators. The horrible ones, that keep on talking, drop all these useless facts about the players on the field, while you're trying to actually watch the goddamn game.

very nice analogy. pretty much sums up all of the tools at richdork. if the melvins were from chicago or named sufjan stevens, it would be the album of the week...
