Most likely Friends forever.  They should have come to Los Angeles.  :x

My favorite was when I went to see them play the 2x3 tour in a dinky club 6968..or something like that.
Also, when we spotted Buzz at an Altamont show, my brother had gotten a poster with clint eastwood on it advertising the show.  I pointed buzz out, my brother was kind of reluctant, I prodded him though.. Buzz was great; said 'hey, you know I'm not in this band, right?' and laughed.  Dale must have left, but we found Joey, and got some of the members of acid king to sign it as well.

Moss  says:

I'm in Fort Collins, CO right now---

Last few days recap---

Cheyenne, WY the night before last was a stopover during a drive day--- Long drive from Slat Lake City, pretty uneventful, pulled into hotel and high-tailed to the Steakhouse down the road--- Everyone ordered the Buffalo Steak --- Mine was Medium Rare with a baked potato--- We all looked high afterwards---

Denver, CO ---- Woke up early to make the last 100 mile drive into Denver to hit, what else a few antique stores--- There's a few on Broadway that we've been to before--- One, that the band has bought tons of stuff from in the past has a few rooms full of old Medical devices and odd scientific antiques--- The old man who owns it is a little crotchety--- Buzz's cell phone rang and after a few seconds of talk the old man told him "no cell phones, can't you see the sign on the door?" -- Buzz apoligized and continued to look around--- Kevin walks in a few minutes later, missing this original exchange, and of course his cell phone rings, his wife calling, and the old man starts telling him "No cell phones allowed in the store" --- Kevin gets off the phone and say he's sorry and that he din't see the sign, the old man replies "We have nothing for you here, please leave" -- Kevin replies "I've bought literally thousands of dollars worth of stuff from you here, and I'm sorry" --- The old man: "There is nothing here for you" ---- Kevin gets kicked out, heh heh---

Show at the Gothic Theatre was good, good crowd, our friend Andy from the Warlock Pinchers showed up, good guy, he nows works for the Government running the Atomic Clock--- Friends Forever also showed but couldn't play--- They're going to play in Fort Collins though, which makes us all happy---

Poster for the show was cool--- I heard some good comments about it--- Lurch, our merch guy says the posters are going over great with the people---

Hit the hotel after the show for a beer and went ot sleep--- Up at 100 am so we could go to this mexican restaurant that Andy told us about, can't remeber the name but it was like the Disneyland of Mexican food joints-- Dancing monkeys, hidden caves, high divers from 30-feet up into a laggon like pool in the middle of the restaurant, and all-you-can-eat tacoand enchilada plate----- We are stuffed---

Show tonight looking good--- More later after----

really? cracker barrel. melvins. me. same table.

I'll bite...let's hear the story please, in detail.

mine was actually by chance, since it happened when I wasn't a fan yet. I saw the Melvins open for Primus at Roseland in 1993 and really didn't know what to expect. When Buzz came out I thought he must be wearing a wig, and instantly felt his stage presence was up there with the best bands I'd ever seen. I still feel that way, and I've seen hundreds of amazing shows by many amazing bands.

anyway, it was the roughest show I'd been to at that point. I saw someone get dropped right on their head, brought backstage, and saw (you could see under the stage if you were upfront) Claypool and some other dudes trying to help the guy out. I was punched in the face by a security guard so they could move the barriers back (I ended up seeing the guy a week or so later at a Ramones show and confronted him about the violence...to no end). I also had to kick some dude square in the chest, sending him back into the pit as he tried to lift me up from where I was standing. During all of this, the melvins were chugging along playing heavier music than I had imagined existed until that point. Dale freaked me out, with his panties and green gloves. I still haven't seen anyone hit the drums as hard...well, maybe Todd Trainer is a close second.

Anyway, Primus plays and it felt silly in comparison to what I'd just seen....even though I wasn't completely sure I had liked the Melvins' set at that point.

15 years later, I haven't listened to Primus probably since that night...but have seen the Melvins a dozen times or more and swear by them every chance I get. The last two shows I saw here in NYC are still ringing in my ears and I can't wait to see them again...

so, let's hear the Cracker Barrel details...I want DETAILS, please.

My number one  that beats any other memeory was when i saw the Melvins open for White Zombie. It was during the Atlantic years so the set ruled. the crowd could care less. I was there for the Melvins. I was up front , and when they were done and leaving the stage i yelled to Dale, whom was quite a ways away. Between the stage and barrier was like 15 or so feet maybe. Anyways, i said throw me a stick and he did and god damn it i caught it.  I still have it and am willing to sell it for 3 dollars.

a bassist for one of my old bands is very close friends with buzz and mackie. we went to the '97 lollapalooza to see the melvins and get backstage. we were really late and missed the show, but dale came out and told us tickets were at will=call. we go inside and chit chat with the boys before and after some autograph sessions, after which buzz invites us to go hit a cracker barrel they saw a few exits back.(dale had a map of all the cracker barrels in the u.s. so they knew where to go.).  so we go and get the big table clockwise: me, dale, buzz, dan raymond, leah, brian, j., some chica mark was banging, and mark d. we eat, mull around the store, check out dale's and mark's beltbuckles(nashville's name with a guitar and kiss, respectively, hell it could be reversed) take a pic(on my myspace page) and voila! dream come true!

There are a few:

- Seeing them for the first time in Houston, Texas in 2000 and taking photos with dale.

- Later that year when I was traveling in California I planned my long drive from L.A to S.F so I could catch them at Slim's with Melt Banana and Vaz. All was good until I got to the gate and it was fucking sold out. While I was sitting on the rails outside nearly crying someone asks if anyone needs a ticket. I jump on the offer and insist on at least buying the two nice guys a beer. Turns out they play with Dale in Altamont and Dale comes to have a chat with us while we have our beer.

- 2nd night at Cherry Bar in Melbourne. Best. Melvins. Show. Ever. I used to go to Cherry (a small rock'n'roll bar) every weekend at that time and seeing the melvins play there 2 nights in a row was just amazing. First night was good but they seemed a bit tired after opening for tool earlier (that's the show on the DVD list). 2nd night the place was going off. Dale was pounding harder than ever, Buzz was really into it and Kevin was Brutal. Adam Jones was standing next to me and didn't have a lighter to light my joint (bastard).

In Charlottesville 2006 on the first Big Belvins tour. There was no backstage, meaning Buzz had to walk around the audience to move from place to place. I saw him as I was coming up the stairs, and gave him a hearty "Hey!" with a thumbs up and got a "Hey" and a wave back.

I guess I didn't chat with him or anything, but it was still cool saying Hi to 1/2 of the folks responsible for what was my Led Zeppelin throughout high school.

Another time at a high on fire show, I asked Joe P for a broken bass string, and he was like "Oh yeah sure, I thought you wanted my bottle of water". Seemed like a nice guy.

oh no... here we go...
The first time I saw the melvins at a 19+ venue I went up to buzz and talked some shit with him.. he approached me while he was setting up his gear and while I was just getting a nice goo dlook at dales drumset... he was very very courteous and mannerful to my surprise.. and then I saw dale later that night and I tried to strike something up with him but it just didnt really go anywhere... to me.. he didnt seem like a talker.
When I saw them in portland for ASA tour my friends and I were shooting shit before the show started and walked around the viscinity of the wonderball room and down towards a resteraunt and a ccafe/ general store... On our way towards that area We saw coady looking like a pimp daddy walking down the street with his arms around 2 pretty attractive young women... of age of course  anbd further up at the restaurant we passed by we saw dale inside it eating a big plate of some nice looking food with some roadies im guessing?
it was a funny 2 minutes. nothing too special... nothing SPECTACULAR.

Hmmm.....I guess it would have to be the shows in June and July this summer.  Seeing them do setup and soundcheck at the GAMH and getting to talk to all of them for a few hours before hand was cool and having Buzz recognize me the next month in Bend at the instore was cool as well.  It's hard to top 6 shows in a month and a half.

It's to tough to pin down a singular favorite experience.

Mine's nothing as special as what some of you guys have had, but I did talk a bit to Dale and Jared at a show one time. It was pretty cool. I'd love to get a photo with one of them sometime.

Speaking of that, it would be cool to see this forum's fan pics with the Melvins from over the years.
