Venus: Rote Fabrik

This was my third Melvins show, and easily the most memorable. Porn started and did two long hypnotic drone pieces with Coady joining in on drums for the second song, and Big Business were excellent too, of course. After them, Buzz stormed on stage and immediately started playing. He seemed really pissed off at the crowd for some reason. I don't remember the exact setlist, but they started off with "Nude with Boots," and, except for "Tipping the Lion," "Eye Flys," "Honey Bucket," a Who cover, "the Star-Spangled Banner" and "Boris," everything they played was off of NWB and ASA.
I think they cut the set off shorter though. During the bassy part of "Boris," where it's just the bassline and Buzz singing, this ass got up on stage, did crotch thrusts toward the audience and started stroking Buzz. Jared put his bass down then, and started repeatedly screaming "Why won't you shut up" at him. Buzz did that too, and Dale picked up a wrench and went "I'll give you something to shut up about." After a while, the bassist for Porn walked over and got the drunk ass off the stage. Jared jumped off the stage then with his mic in his hand, and started walking through the crowd, screaming "Why won't you shut up." Buzz in the meantime, just started playing harmonics for a while, and eventually started playing this weird guitar line and sang "Why won't you shut the fuck up" to the tune of "Another Brick in the Wall." Jared climbed up on stage again, and started singing along with Buzz (this time with "Another Brick in the Wall's" actual lyrics) and Coady and Dale joined in too. This guy then ran up to the front, and really angrily started yelling "Hey! Just play your bass" to Jared (who was just singing at this point), so he got off the stage again, grabbed that guy and started shaking him, and again screamed "why won't you shut up" and went on stage again. They then all sang "All in all it's just another brick in the wall" one more time, and walked off the stage, with Buzz just saying "Thank you for coming" before leaving. Awesome!

I wish I had a copy, but I didn't even bring a camera to the show. I'll try seeing if someone else maybe posted it on Youtube, or at least posted photos on Flickr.

i was at this show. they didn't play "another brick in the wall" at the very end of the show but "okie from muskogee". the rest with the crazy fan and the "shut the fuck up" chants and jared being in the audience is true.
