Excuse me, but i have a bit of a rant. So i lent a bunch of my thrash CDs (mostly Vio-lence, Exodus, etc) to a friend about a month ago and put Houdini in the pile thinking he would appreciate and love it, but today he got back to me about it and said it was just "okay". I dont get it, that album changed my taste in music forever. Its one of those albums that doesnt take any time at all to get into. Dammit, how can you be so into Municipal Waste but just bat an eyelash upon hearing Houdini? I didn't make a big deal of this at all at the time becuase i didn't want to look like a crazy Melvins fan and everyone has different taste and blah blah blah, but still.. COME ON! I bestowed a gift upon you by letting you touch and listen to my Melvins album, why can't you appreciate it like me?

Municipal Waste! From my town (Richmond VA) same as Gwar and Lamb of God.

Anyways, yeah,  most people I try getting into the Melvins don't take. Nothing you can do, except maybe try other songs. Also, keep in mind there could be a really great band you dismissed at one time.

cara, you need a real man in your life, a melvins man, like me. :P

ahhh ha oh god, fart lips.
It kind of took me a while to get into houdini... i started listening to it when i was in grade 9 and at that time i was into alot of stupid bands so the transition was rough for me....but it was for the best.

I loaned my brother houdini, thinking it would be right up his alley. I mean this is the guy who started listening to metallica, megadeth, anthrax, and slayer when I still thought mtv was "where it's at" (they still played videos back in those days) . He loves KISS for god's sake! I told him goin blind was on there and that it was cobain's favorite band to try to entice him. I thought it would be a natural. I were wrong.
What's that? Not me. Fuck that, I'm a cat.

Eye in Triangle

Houdini was my first Melvins album, and it didn't do much for me. It's just a bit on the plain side until you really "get" the Melvins. Stoner Witch would probably have a bigger impact.

Bullhead was the first for me and it remains one of my absolute favorites. After I was fully enthralled with Bullhead I picked up the Salad of a Thousand Delights DVD not really knowing what to expect. My life was changed forever.

I got Houdini and 10 songs first, and they both blew my mind..  But when I heard Stag for the first time a bit later I didn't really like it.  Looking back, I can't believe I didn't like Stag from the beginning.  I mean,  Stag is just..  STAG.  That was an important moment for my Melvins appreciation.
Everything was beautiful, and nothing hurt.

Centripetal core of soul sojourn the field vibrates to absolution. I climb toward the sun to breathe the universal.

Have you seen the bridge?  I ain't seen the bridge!  Where's that confounded bridge?!

houdini live got me into the melvins, no joke.

i'm relatively new... but i'm obsessive about anything i like, so it was a quick process becoming obsessed.

i still like that album more than the original.

I actually found a copy of Houdini at Goodwill, believe it or not, and that sparked my love for Melvins. It seems absurdly fitting somehow.

What's Goodwill? At an uneducated guess, is it like a poor man's Walmart?
