Is it just me or is the REMASTERED version necessary or another way to get $$$?

The Jesus Lizard announced Albini is REMASTERING HEAD/PURE, GOAT, LIAR, and DOWN in May.
The new trend of REMASTERING original recordings is a slippery slope.

IS the sound THAT much better?
IS the NEW and IMPROVED packaging another scam?
:-k

I know I will be the first in line for the MELVINS  but I am a fool when it comes to anything with a MELVINS stamp on it.

molotov

Why not?
Anyway I'll not buy it.

It seems like a very un-Albini-like thing to remaster those great Jesus Lizard albums.

cara

Well, those albums have sold many copies and the quality isnt terrible so its clearly not absolutely necessary. I guess we'll see if the sound will be a lot better after they're remastered, but i'm gonna say its mostly a promotion/money thing.

black stallion

i'm the one who likes the original recording quality, especially for Lysol?i'd like so much to hear Dale with that sound again  [-o<

anaconda

theyve replaced the john bonham snare sample with a jason bonham snare sample.

Everytime I listen to D'yer Mak'er and then Lysol or vice versa I get shivers.  I LOVE the drum sound.
Everything was beautiful, and nothing hurt.

Centripetal core of soul sojourn the field vibrates to absolution. I climb toward the sun to breathe the universal.

Have you seen the bridge?  I ain't seen the bridge!  Where's that confounded bridge?!

I don't know if you have listened to those Jesus Lizard albums after playing other albums, but they are very quiet in comparison.  I think a remastering of them is definitely in order.

It is nice to see Albini taking the helm again though, as I don't see him fucking things up or drastically changing the feel.

ReMaster/cover Bullhead. Other than that, meh.

I want b-side comps, I want cover albums, I want live shit, I want DVD's. I want info on past Melvins dealings.

I'll only buy the  Melvins (Boner) CDs again if there are bonus tracks, same with the Jesus Lizard. The CDs sound fine. Whey does everyone think LOUDER is better. If I want to hear more bass, I'll turn the bass up. Tool's CDs are a perfect example of this bad trend in how CDs sound today.

The dynamics are there on the current CDs of say Bullhead & Goat. I just hate hw new CDs are mastered with too much low end. I was just listening today to Clutch - Pitchfork, and it doesn't sound right, like they just jacked all the levels up too much.
The SST '80s catalog is a different story. I would so love to see all the Black Flag CDs remastered. The vinyl sounds better. Ginn's too lazy and cheap to do it though. If only Rollins had control of that stuff.

If Rollins had control of the BLACK FLAG REMASTERS, they would be distributed through STARBUCKS exclusively.
Other than DAMAGED, give me Nervous breakdown, Jealous Again, 6-pack, Machine/ Louie, Louie. =;
Rollins likes to hear himself talk WAYYYY to much.  :bs:

The last BLACK FLAG reunion show at the Hollywood Palladium was a total emabarrasement.
Listless and drab...Made SPINAL TAP look like U2.

PUNK ROCKER/DIY are not suppose to slap on a remastered sticker with some minor knob turning! It is blatant scam to sell to dumb kids.
Ask Matt Jacobson at Relapse or Steve Austin of Today is the Day.
The general public will buy anything with a REMASTERED sticker.  SUCKERS?

I'm sorry, while I can appreciate the dank noise-dom of Bullhead, I think it needs a remastering. It just doens't have kick. Quoth my friend, drummer in my band Collosus Of Desinty and confidant, "I didn't understand Anaconda until I heard it live".

Do it live ala Houdini, I don't care. It just needs redoing.
