(which is the same thing as drop D like tool, but all 6 strings are tuned down 1 whole step, which is 2 frets lower.)
there ya go! i tune all of the strings at least a full 2 steps lower.  it helps that i use a fixed bridge, its a gibson lp double cutaway.  i originally got the idea though to drop all the strings from stephen carpenter of the deftones. he has a 7 string esp where the low D is dropped to A and the rest are done correspondingly.

Also, never adjust the truss rod to change pitch.  Adjust it to attain proper straightness and adjust the bridge to attain proper intonation (that said proper intonation may require a properly set truss rod).  In other words if the neck is properly straight it would be so most all tunings (though a drastic change in string tension may affect neck change).  Whatever I think I just confused myself, I know it when I'm doing it.

On my strat I get two steps down fine with .11's.  I also used to get it fine with my les paul copy.  Yes it is slacker, but that is a part of the sound that I like.  I think intonation can stray a bit as you move around on the neck, but if you have a guitar set to it semi-permanently it should be no problem to set the intonation properly for the lower tuning.  Dropping the E to an A sounds a little flabby but that is part of why Boris sounds so evil.

I was the guy who wrote that wikipedia entry. I forgot about that, haha. I'm pretty sure those are all the Melvins songs in drop C tuning, so not a whole lot. There aren't any songs in drop C off Nude With Boots. To the guy who was confused about drop C tuning, I just meant CGCFAD. When the Melvins play drop A, Buzz only tunes the low E down to A, so the strings are tuned to AADGBE. This tuning is used on Boris, Kooleged, The Fool, The Meddling Idiot, Dog Island, and Nude With Boots.

I don't know if anyone here listens to the death metal band Nile, but they tune to AEADF#B. I think that's right... Anyway, it's the full-0n drop A tuning. very low, with a kickass, heavy sound.

the question is what does meshuggah tune to? the depths of hell perhaps?

From Wiki-

"Fredrik Thordendal and Marten Hagstrom of Meshuggah tune their 8 string guitars F,Bb,Eb,Ab,Db,Gb,Bb,Eb"

THE DEPTHS OF HELL INDEED!

Yeah- even my 7 string sounds high compared to Meshuggah.

Trevor said Buzz's (three) gtrs are all tuned differently.
One for the E/drop D, one a whole step down for the D/drop C stuff, but I can't remember what the other one was...
Not sure which he uses for the drop A songs like Boris and Dog Island etc., but I'm pretty sure that you guys are all onto that already!

Having a 7string, I just play all their songs in different positions and drop the low B to A for Boris and Dog Island, though I do use my 6string for the E/drop D stuff sometimes just to make things easier.

i've never seen buzz change guitars during a show unless he breaks a string.  he detunes on the spot as well.

I think he means Fantomas innit guvnah!
Also those POTRE songs are perfectly playable with drop C, you just have to be a bit crafty

Yeah, sorry bout that!
I guess he changes gtrs in Fantomas since there's no time to tune between songs.

BTW, my 7string is an ESP. They are the only ones who make (or made?) them apart from Ibanez, but who wants a 'handle' cut into the body?!? Plus the ESP's have a fixed bridge  8)
