when i saw shrinebuilder at the viper room in l.a. in '09 they played an entire set, took a short break, and then played the exact same set again. they were great both times. i think it might have been their first-ever show so i guess they figured they needed the practice.

Yes it was. Not sure if this was true or internet folklore, but at the time i heard that before the show there was a curtain separating the stage from the audience that was dropped once they started playing. As much as i like that idea it has always struck me as unlikely. It's not some Prog rock band after all and i simply can't imagine anyone in the band being quite so flamboyant or high on themselves.

Nizamark

the curtain thing is pretty common at the viper room. i don't remember if there was a curtain at that show but it's probable, and likely wasn't the band's decision.

meezer

The curtain got stuck like the poo fighters show in Italy, didn't it?

I really dug this band. I'm not sure why it didn't catch on or why people didn't seem to really like it. I guess because people were expecting Sleep II, but it was really more like Hawkwind meets Sabbath.  I saw the San Jose show and it ruled.

Godflesh

I saw them in Finland 9 years ago, fantastic. I still do like them. I don't see what the problem is that they didn't get proper attention. I like them more than Sleep.

live they were cool, album didn't impress me too much, even though i can remember it grew on me... long time i don't listen to it now. i remember Scott Kelly vocals being totally annoying for my tastes

Same here.  To me neurosis has always been a great Instrumental band, one of the best, but as soon as one of them opens their mouth I get disinterested quickly.

I like the journey of listening to the album and you go from Wino/ Scott vox to Al's and then back. it's a nice change up for me. but I get the critique. it's an acquired taste and I've still never gotten fully into Neurosis.

I don't play the album much now but i still love it. Even short-lived as it was, i am extremely grateful that it happened at all and there is something recorded to remember it by. I love all the constituent parts too. Al's vocals, Scott's vocals, Wino's vocals, Dale's (backing) vocals!!! Outside of Buzz and Pike being involved, virtually THE perfect band (members wise) for me!

Sometimes i wish there was that mythical second record. But at least i never have to tell myself "i don't like this second album like the first one!". Yet, i think i will go to my grave always wondering what the new songs they were working on that Wino mentioned once 'The Concept Of Now' and 'In The Wake Of Zeus' would have sounded like.  :(

Then there was this too!
