was just listening to this, not my first time, probably it's my second!i use to be very critical with bands doing Melvins covers,i could really appreciate a band performing a song identical to the original (which is not so easy,if not impossible),or also appreciating a band who totally modify the song in a personal and original way.
my opinion is the most of these bands sound Nu Metal trying to play this stuff, sometimes is the vocals, sometimes drums,is just terrible.what's your opinion?which of these bands would you save?personally i'd say HOF(Oven),EHG(Easy As It Was),Pincer2(Echohead,Don't Piece Me).

It's crap.

Green Day would have blown shit up by doing those covers.

Never get boy bands to do a man bands work.

GrimReaper

I like it. I must admit I haven't listened to it for a while as I put in the original Melvins material first. Pig Destroyer's cover of Claude is awesome and worth checking out. So I know i'd save them. We Reach got me into Pig Destoyer.

What about this tribute? You like this one?

black stallion

i don't know this tribute, which bands are involved?i would be curious to hear it.i think i should give another listen to that we reach tribute, anyway that was my opinion about covers, not about bands.i think covering the Melvins isn't so easy.i also shouldn't think to the Melvins covering other bands for not being so critical (their version of YOA is better than the original, the same for their version of Green Manalishi, for not talking of Alice Cooper's  :o :D)

Dude!

The Isis/Agoriphobic Bosebleed cover of Boris rules....
so does one where Mastodon cover The Bit.
The one and only....

Why did STRAPPING YOUNG LAD put explosions in their cover?  That was awful.

yeah, that's terrible, but in my opinion the worst thing of that song is the double bass drum pedal.i have to agree with Grim about Pig Destroyer's version of Claude though,is not bad.what i can't stand of some of these bands is that crossover vibe they give to the songs.

i think i like the originals better for all these songs :D

but melvins covering flipper is beautiful, and shiny.

black stallion

yeah, maybe better is a big word...you can't say they ruined those songs though, that for sure.think also to Interstellar Overdrive, their cover is amazing if you think to the original PF's version.

I've always wanted to hear this: EYEHATEGOD - "Easy as It Was"

I've never persued it though. I guess I don't want to hear it that bad.

I like the Mare "Nightgoat" song even though I can't recognise any Nightgoat part from it.  At least they did something twisted and unpredictable.  High on Fire doing "Oven" is great,  Eyehategod is pretty good while being fairly straightforward.  Dillinger's vocal style doesn't suit "Honey Bucket" at all.  Mastodon's cover of "The Bit"  is just boring.  CKY do a good job of "Laughing with Lucifer...".  It's not a great album overall but you should buy it for the Derek Hess artwork.
Ridicule is nothing to be scared of.

to me, the best of the lot

a few others are okay(isis/agoraphobic nosebleed, high on fire/keelhaul)
mostly crap like any tribute album. pincer 2 is a capella and the voice sure sounds familiar. hint: it sounds like Mike Patton's favorite singer, Mike Patton

What's that? Not me. Fuck that, I'm a cat.
