At the Stake
« on: March 21, 2010, 11:36:58 PM »
I don't care if this is a dead subject, but after 15 years this song has NEVER gotten old to me. Am i alone on this? I can listen to this dailey and never get sick of it. I'm going to go ahead and say it is definitely one of the best songs ever written. Go ahead with the hating now.

i have very fond memories of that song. it's by far the best on stoner witch.

i think of a night that i worked at a guitar center. we had a late night cleaning/merchandising session. we all got really stoned beforehand.  i was cleaning the live sound room, and i pumped that song through a wall of loudspeakers at 100 decibels. that song deserves to be played that loud.

Agreed.

At the Stake is great but is even greater in the context of Stoner Witch listened to in it's entirety.

Does that make any sense?

Yes it does.  I think everyone will agree with you about this song.  My friends who aren't even remotely interested in the Melvins all like this song.  The chorus is enough to bring tears to my eyes.  It's heartbreaking and oppressive and massive sounding, a true epic of a song.

I never knew Mark D. played guitar on it.
...and they all sing the same refrain: its fun to take a trip, put acid in your veins.

Awesome song.

MELVINS - At The Stake (Live in Cologne, 1996)

When I was searching for that I saw a video called "Joan of Arc at the stake" and it took me about 30 seconds to realize that it wasn't a Melvins video.   #-o  Maybe Buzz thought that title was too long and used at the stake for a different title.
