the obfuscated lyrics(the thinly veiled cries for help)- the hair to hide his face- the mumus to hide his body- the defensiveness "I don't care what anyone thinks, so nah!"- excessive joking- self promoting- bullying- overly authoritative- overly competitive, it's all there.

one of the things I really like... or should I say liked about the melvins was that their songs are simple yet rhytmically complex. you try and learn to play older melvins songs... even off POTRE ,  the rhythm is usually awkward. especially on the drums.

Most business endevours fail within the first 4 years....these guys seem to have a never ending sping of determination and creativity that is a true marvel of brillinace welling up from deep within their souls.

I think Robert crumb said it best...but I can't quote exact words..

most artists have a span of 10 years that they will produce their "best" work, and thats all they can seem to get out of their careers...a decade of shining before you are usually burnt out and stale with nothing "new" and most of those elite few become "bought off" by the high end market and wind up with nothing provokative to say or express anymore, at least nothing that makes for GOOD art.

you're lucky if you get 10 years to shine.

goes to show this band is doing something no one else can seem to figure out...well... that, AND they probly got no place else to go!!!
