did anybody here go to this show?
the rickshaws beer order didnt come in last night so they just served highballs. also there was no merch because of the goddamn border.
Im glad it was the melvins playing because thats about all that held the night together.
but damn, what a great show... I mean besides the fact that having two drummers completely mucks up the sound they were great. they played material from just about every album.

sacrifice, the talking horse, black bock, skin horse, hung bunny/ roman dog,  black stooges, anaconda, my generation, let it all be, lovely butterfly, the kicking machine, a bunch off stuff tbsm.... im probably forgetting some.

highlight of the night:
melvins
drama with a bouncer and a bartender, throwing drinks at eachother and cussing almost fighting.
somebody in the front row threw a beer at jared.  jared was pissed.
having a first nations crack addict tell me shes better than me.

it sounds like the crowd for Big Business was just as bad for you as it was for me. During their first set in Calgary someone spilled their beer all over the back of my pants and someone kept trying to steal my boyfriend's wallet. And honestly, what is with people throwing their beer everywhere? It's stupid and a waste of perfectly good 7 dollar beer.

Beefs aside, I'm glad you had a good time! No pictures?

I was there. Was originally going to see them at the sled island fest, but due to other commitments couldnt make it that weekend, but could make it the 12 hour drive from edmonton haha. My buddy who came with me from edmonton for the show started feeling sick as soon as we got there, i felt pretty bad for him. The melvins blew my fucking brain out though. The sound was really great, the dual drumming was fucking awesome and sounded terrific.  The end of the set with the drum off and then jared signing into his bass was the perfect way to end the set. It was completely worth the trip. too bad about the lack of merch, but i read about there boarder trouble in some magazine, so it wasn't totally unexpected. But yeah, easily the best show live band i've seen at this point. the vibe was completely in your face and aggressive when it needed to be, and fun and light at other times. Always huge though. All members singing in unison just blew me back every once in awhile. I just sort of stood there mouth agap in awe a couple of times. Even songs i wasn't familiar with, or didnt much care for came across really terrific live.  Great show.

my review of the show:

things to be considered - the was the first concert in Canada, but overall my fourth Melvins concert. was sober.

first of all the rickshaw theater did not seem to be a charming venue and no beer.

For me the sound could have been better - it seemed to me that during the second set the sound was  improving, but maybe that is because i changed my location.

The last Melvins gig i attended was in London last December and that was the best concert i have been to - the sound was great, everyone  was into it and i had drank just the right amount beforehand, so yeah, smth was missing in the overall vibe for me. maybe i was expecting too much from this gig.

still, it was all good, the highlights of the concert for me were: hung bunny, water glass, black bock,  let it all be, evil new war god

Bah, VIP nothin', just a lowly member of the media, there on assignment.  I'm a writer and not a photog, so that's why my pics aren't so great.  But perching between those two drumsets snapping pictures? Damn good thing I had earplugs. And even then, hoo boy...

Fantastic show! "The Water Glass" was a show-stopper for me. My first time seeing the BigBiz lineup (seen Melvins 2

Big Business didn't play in Vancouver. Instead, the Melvins played 2 sets,  just like the very 1st time I saw them at the Town Pump in Vancouver in 1993 (high as hell on acid when someone in the crowd passed me a joint which kicked it all in!)

The show was fucking amazing! It was better than the Calgary shows due to the fact that they were able to play more songs.

My only complaint about the show is that one of the bouncers confiscated my 1st joint of the night after having just lit it up, and then I had some bouncers shining a light in my face and trying to catch me in the act again for the 2nd joint, but I was too swift for those fuckers! I've never had a problem smoking pot at the Rickshaw before so it was kinda weird to be getting that treatment, especially in Vancouver. 3rd, 4th and 5th joints were no problem cuz I made sure I put them out after a few hoots!

There was no beer at the bar that night so I had a few double hard drinks which, when combined with the joints and all %7 beer I had before the show, did the trick of getting me primed for the Melvins very nicely!

I gotta say I'm still on a huge Melvins-high right now after having seen them 3 times in 4 days!

I will post a video or 2 soon...

Thanks a lot for the photos kyleantivenin!

Shit, considering that the Rickshaw is located at ground zero Junkytown in Vancouver, it baffles me that the bouncers even gave a shit about a few joints getting lit.  I mean, what do you expect at a Totimoshi/Melvins gig?

I didn't bother to go to the bar all night, but what a dumb move on the Rickshaw's part, not having any beer on hand.

FYI - Coady mentioned on Twitter that BigBiz proper may try to come to Vancouver in 2011. Hope so.

about the beer situatio
even the staff at rickshaw was dissapointed they didnt have any beer. it isn't their fault though.. apparently they made an order for beer but it never showed up.
I really like how the rickshaw is basically a movie theatre with a stage and floor. the seats are still there if your legs are tired or if you want a better view of the band. you can walk around anywhere in the rickshaw and still be able to have a decent view. the balcony is really nice too.

Virtual Stupidity

Rickshaw needs to get their shit together as far as liquor and estimating for a night....I went to Evile there a few months back... an HOUR in no beer...then no coke! nor rum! than no whiskey! and at the melvins show all the had at the end of the night was FUCKING SAMBUCCA!?!?! it was my 5th melvins show, first L.S.D induced melvins show!  It was really good I must admit! but after the show I did not need to meet this guy on the bus! He was a fucking nut he was telling us he was a millionaire in 5 countries, he has climbed everest! and moutains in Nepal and APPARENTLY we missed tomorrow! but how is tomorrow missed when were in the midst of it!...."how can a door be a jar"

at the end of the show in Calgary Dale stood up and said "we'll be back next year, I promise!"

Looks really good for more Melvins/Canada action.
