I remember being at the show where the Melvins opened for Primus, must have been mid 90's,
the Primus fans in the crowd were like " WTF is this shit ?", "Why is this song so slow ?", etc,etc.
About 3 months later a lot of those same people were coming into the record store I managed
and were asking me which Melvins album they should get. The thing with the Melvins is, you
might not "get it" on first listen,  because they don't really fit into a standard musical category.
There are/were no musical contemporaries for the average listener to lump Melvins in with so
they can/could understand it & feel comfortable accepting it. A lot people have to shed their musical
paradigms before they "understand" the Melvins. Primus never evolved, they just kept doing what
worked & pigeonholed themselves. The Melvins, however, have never stopped carving their unique
mark into music history, they just keep fuckin' the music world up the ass with a hard on that's lasted
over 25 years.....that's why I love 'em & will always be a fan.

I saw the Melvins open for Primus in 1993 at Roseland Ballroom. Had never heard them before seeing them live. I fucking hated it...my benchmark for hard music at the time was - well, Primus.


Skip forward almost 20 years and I never went to see Primus again nor do I still listen...yet I've seen Melvins almost 20 times since and will go every fucking chance I get.


One thing I disagree with, however...Primus did evolve: into a Jam Band.

These kids I met at a Sheridan college dorm were all into music, the guy even had a marshall stack in his room, I took them back to my Ex ex Ex's room to smoke a bong, and I put on videoplasty and they HAD to have been like almost 30 somethings, and both asked me what we were watching, I swear It was a bigger shock than breaking up with my ex a few weeks later.

These were MY kind of people right? ART people...who don't know primus is fucking almost too frightening.

anyhow that was a fucked up realization for me.

I didn't end up going to Art college..regardless...I don't want to learn computer animation, some nerdy kid sitting in his dorm going "look what I made with my computer"...like I said, I prefer analog to everything, air is analog, sex is analog, and so is drawing lines on paper to store or share information. well shame on those idiots.

as for stealing car batteries and killing cats, sure...true or not, I assume you don't  fuck with Buzz.
