true, but we are talking about Danny devito and not some reality show schlepp.  He's got pull, the melvins have status and an album that actually broke the top 200, and snl has been doing a lot more alt bands in the past years.

You know, that song won't lie down. It just won't go away. I mean, there's a Mike Tyson moment associated with it now. It's just bizarre. I guess it has a bit of mystery, a lot of atmosphere, and the drums coming in, pinning people to the wall.

Probably the single greatest, most out there performance on SNL was Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band in 1980, playing Hot Head & Ashtray Heart.

They let Zappa on twice, once as both musical and special guest. But that was back when Lorne and the gang did good drugs.
