Take Fox news for exemple. They say they are fair and balanced, but that utter crap since Fox News is the most pro-Bush channel. Complete propaganda.

CNN is less biaised, but they are not better.

It makes me laugh when Buzzo's said in the past that he thinks that the idea of getting political ideas from a rock band was pretty damn laughble and there he is with song titles like that. Doesn't anyone get sick of Jello's whole schtick? I mean, he's proven that he's as greedy and capitalist as the system he pretends to rally against...just ask his old bandmates. It's like Rage Against the Machine...they make so much money out of spouting empty leftwing catchphrases to a teenage audience that laps it up thinking that these bands are somehow intelligent and cool. If I want political advice, it'll not be from Fat Mike or whoever's spouting off next about how much they hate Bush or hate capitalism.

I sincerely hope Buzz doesn't leave the mike to Jello for the whole record. I mean, for one thing, Jello sounds like absolute shit anyway. And I really hope they don't bother with a lyric sheet.

i agree reverend. i've been down on jello this whole time but i got flak for it because "he's a punk rock legend" or some shit like that.  i hate political punk.  my love for the melvins has a way to make me dislike any lyrics that make too much sense.  it just seems like it puts the emphasis in the wrong part of the musical experience...

The title of Track 3 seems somehow old-fashioned, since even Incubus had a version of it in their video to "Megalomaniac". And I hope that track 5 & 6 don't deal with the topics their names point at, because I'm totally uninterested in what Jello has to say on these overdiscussed issues.

Yes.... if the lyrics are political (whether I agree with them or not*) then this could be the first Melvins CD I do not buy. One of the great pleasures of King Buzzo is his cryptic lyrics. I don't need no stinking understandable lyrics...

Generally I don't care for political lyrics because
a. most often rock songs make the political points sound dumb (Rage Against My Boss fell prey to this often).
b. If the subject is topical it will quickly date the song.
c. songwriters tend  to sacrifice the music for the message.
d. the songwriters tend to not be well informed and lack a solid grasp of the subject matter.

Sometimes even my favorite artists like The Clash and the afore mentioned Rage Against My Boss have made music I 'd dig a lot more without the politics. and There are some exceptions though. People like Bob Dylan, Fugazi, Public Enemy, Mos Def, Johnny Cash, Neil Young, and Bob Marley have made political music that I really love.

Jello Biafra is defineately one of the few I really dig. He's clearly very well informed (If you check out the spoken word stuff he's pretty good about naming sources which can't be said even about most serious news sources and politicians). He tends to write about underlaying causes as opposed to  just what's on the surface which tends among other things to keep the songs from gettin' to dated. Most importantly his stuff stands without the message. "Holiday In Cambodia" for example is damn funny, no matter what you think about the message. The Dead Kennedys albums, the first Lard album and the Jello/Nomeansno disc will never leave my collection. Even as I've grown older and leaned a little more conservative his stuff still holds up very well to me.

I'l give you that Jello hasn't been very musically active lately and I'm afraid he might be a little rusty. I'm still really lookin' foreward to this disc though, 'cause I think the MELVINS and Jello will bring out the best in each other.

It's kinda bummin' me out to see so many of you guys bitchin' about The MELVINS not doin' exactly what you've liked them doin' in the past. Have you been payin' attention? This band has never (in what 18 albums?) repeated themselves and they're not gonna start now. Thy're never gonna make another Bullhead or The Maggot or Prick for that matter. They work fast, so we can pretty much expect another album next year or early 2006 and it ain't gonna sound much like HAT or any of there other albums, but it is gonna rule. If you don't dig the idea of them workin' with Jello or Lustmord, just don't buy the damn thing and shut the hell up. There will be another "just the MELVINS" album before you know it for you to whine about.

i do think that music is about expressing your artistic creative side, and i dont really see anything creative about singing about how the government fucked you over.
