As to the EP discussion, certainly there isn't going to be a single answer, because the phrase really has no universal definition. But, I agree the debate is fun. (Although, I believe billboard has a very strict definition of what an ep is)

I'd say an EP is determined by the artists' intent when putting it out. If the artist feels that its designed to either be smaller statement, or statement where each song should be lingered over, it is an ep. Where the artist feels that the collection of songs fit together to tell a longer sonic narrative, its an lp.

Remember, Lard's first release was a 65 minute ep, but the circle jerks have a 14 minute album. And to em, the Lard release sounds like an ep and the Circle jerks release sounds like a full album.

Also, it seems I am in the minority, but I loved The Bride Screamed Murder.

Are most melvins fans anti this record, or are the ones that are just the most vocal?

I don't know, but it's probably in my top 5 favorite Melvins records, and it's definetly my favorite record with Cody and Jarred.

To me BRIDE has some highlights and some lowerlights.
that doesn't mean it wasn't good..  but when you're comparing it to...  95% of the rest of their catalog which is BLINDINGlights it has a tougher time shining through.

Bride screamed Murder is the best soundtrack to Every War movie I've ever imagined. the music itself is like a firsthand glance into Being recruided into service. This is the kind of stuff I have always seen them doing better than anyone else could ever do it. I've always wanted to hear this album before It even came out.

You guys don't even know, This is by far one Deep album.

It's  fantastic.

The emotional Energy of it is by far maximum intensity.

I definitely see a 'war' theme. from the military chant at the beginning
thru to the titles of some songs; Evil New War God, I'll Finish You Off
(killing the enemy?), Hospital Up (triage hospital?), Inhumanity & Death
(the atrocity of war?), the cover of My Generation (generations lost to war?),
PG x3 (seeking the peace of home after a campaign? but the memories
still piercing the soldier's mind with post-tramautic stress???)

tbsm owns without insisting on its ownership. its like, oh, i own, how about that?

nah, it gets more boring as the world passes. i don't want something earthshatteringly different, just something that blows up my car stereo. senile is the only one with the current lineup that i really care for.

I agree with Glen.  As I've said before, It's kind of like Black Flag's in my head.  Its not the best flag album but its still better than most albums other people make.

Conda: I thought there was a war theme in ASA.  Parts of civilized worm and a history of bad men remind me of war.  I can see it in TBSM too though.

From Coady today:

Listening to new melvins mixes...Buzz has some great lines on this one. Some of my favorite lyrics to date. We are doomed.

And a cheap trick cover.
