Melvins - 6. The Bloat/The Bit [Belfort - Eurockeennes 2003]

When Kevin plays the bass line, it's just mesmerising

who wrote that bass line though?  :-"

Mark D's Fender JAZZ bass.

-on a side note, Kevin had the coolest bass of the whole lot.

The double horn Danelectro gold sparkle!!!

yea but those danelectros would go outta tune if you looked at them too hard.
Again,a gorgeous tragedy approaches,in the wake of those thought contained. But sonic reverberations shake the very marrow of the fragile chamber of mans lifeforce, and again the minions quiver in fear,as daylight fails to come, and Melvins walk the battlefield, bored and hungry...

Well in my mind, Kevin and Mark are equals in terms of awesomeness and talent  but I love the sound of Kevin's playing, so raw and brutal

I dont mean to be a know it all but  mark D's bass was a PRECISION bass.

and kevins double horn sparkle basses are custom made by some guitar shop in van nuys, ca
i forgot their names... they order nuts and saddles from my work.

Dumpster D

I never noticed it was a P bass, I guess mark is just a small guy?

That explains a lot, you sure he strictly was a P bass guy? I SWORE he'd used plenty of different guitars.

and I guess KEVINS custom bass wouldnt' have the tuning issues.

What about Jared, he's got a Fender Jazz then right?

Mark primarily used a p bass... at least with the melvins he did.
y'see?

yeah, jareds a jazz bass guy.

just remembered... the guitar shop that made or modified kevins bass is Erics Guitar Shop.

Dumpster D

Personally I find the P bass a little lighter and thin crispy, not my favourite player but good for beating the living shit outta, They spring back to life and are pretty classic. good for newbies and if you want to get REALLY good in a hurry, practice on a P bass.

you can't beat the balls of a JAZZ bazz.

Lurch

I always liked the p bass sound on the albums with mark. punchy and growly with plenty of low end. the live sound too (from what i can hear from youtube videos)
