Disappointing night.  The opening band were undertalented garage rockers trying to impersonate avant garde jazz musicians and at best they sounded like instruments falling down stairs.   Like a trip to the densitst.

The melvins rocked out until the introduction of Jello Biafra, when the show turned into a political rally.  If I wanted to watch fucking politics I would have stayed home and watched msnbc and ate cheetos.  Sadly enough this is the first show in 6 years I have not bought a t-shirt from.

Man that sucks  :?

More details on the political rally?

I know you're not referring to Trevor Dunn, correct?

Well, I thought it was a great show.

Wasn't sure what to think of Trevor Dunn, I guess at this point in my life my ears just haven't acquired a taste for that sort of thing. Maybe someday.

Right before the show I had to take a leak, but couldn't seem to do so with the constant loud parade of people going in and out the bathroom. But as soon as the Melvins took the stage I forgot all about my bladder.

They opened with Let it all Be.  I believe Tipping the Lion was next- I've always like that song but even more so now. They played Queen and possibly Bar X , I can't remember. The Bloat.  Covered I wanna hold your hand.

Feedback and notes dragged slowly for 2 minutes, and I was excited to realize it was the Fool, the meddling idiot.

They had some kind of Colossus madness with flashing lights go on for 5 minutes, I think they followed it with eye flys.

Lovely Butterfly attended the concert. And Night Goat also made a triumphant appearance. They also played Bloated Pope and a good portion of the POTRE title track. They did not play pink bat or safety third.
Buzz seemed to hint at some fans' disappointment with the new cd,  at one point joking about fans having already had to put up with colossus of destiny.

Yeah, Jello took the stage. He was with them for probably 20 - 30 minutes. I didn't recognize any of the songs. Possibly played Youth of America (I bought and listened to electroretard for the first time that night, and the opening riff sounded familiar).  Jello constantly flailed his arms around like an octupus playing charades.  He crowd surfed a couple times, and I found myself wondering if he ever surfs at his spoken word engagements. He made a brief comment about voting out Bush, but the politics was mainly in the songs.  He didn't stop the show and ramble. I was almost poised to throw my shoe at him if he started rambling about, say, Mumia. But he didn't.  And although I would have preferred less Jello, he was energetic and entertaining.

Did I enjoy myself? Hell yes, I did.

(PAUL)

They played with Jello McGruff the Crime Dog, The Lighter Side of Global Terrorism, and a little song called California Ubber Alles. They also did Halo of Flies, and a song I didn't recognize. Jello referenced Wesley Willis by doing the "rock over London, rock on Chicago" bit. Overall it was great.
Hail, not fail.
PS:  fuck him.

Man I'd love to see em play Halo of Flies.

Sorry everyone, and much respect to the kennedy's and all am/rep bands but I went to see the melvins, not Jello.  Certainly a song or two would have been fine, but that was way too much.

I have ZERO tolerance for cheap election politics at shows.  If it were in regard to a movement to help the poor, environment, the career of ricky martin, etc, I wouldn't care.
I saw too many bands/comedians use that stupid 2000 contested election as a cheap way to get applause, and it is fucking lame.  And of course now that November is approaching rapidly, I will have to endure it more again.  Why the fuck would you say "out the door in 04" at a show?  Why would anyone act like such a sheep and get all rowdy excited about it?  Who the hell votes based on what entertainers say anyway?  Is anyone that ignorant and impressionable?

As far as Trevor Dunn goes, I feel that I am qualified to say that they were horrid.  I am a musician myself and spent 2 years in Orleans jazz scene.  It was actually funny to watch all the people glued to that band because they thought it was something they were suposed to appreciate becasue of it's artistic merit, even if it sounded like rambling shit to them. Incoherent noise does not equal jazz.  Also, they had to look at each other and nod when they were going to leave the sloppy hippie jam style noise and go back into one of their choreographed morse code sections.  They are to jazz what Chef boy r Dee is to italian food.

I really can't say how much I was saddened by this show.

What's you're problem? He's not saying stupid shit, he's just giving his opinion on the show, be it possitive or negative.
