Hands down the most disappointing Melvins show (of the 6) I've been to. It was the most expensive one I've been to, the shortest (an hour), the sound at the beginning of the show was shit and the band didn't really seem into it. The shirts suck. No Jello. Buzz lied to the audience and said they were coming back to NYC in a few weeks and they were going to do a free concert downtown. On top of that, I drove 6 hrs to see this show. I honestly think the next time they play I may not go.

They opened with "let it all be", they might as well not have played it. It was so weak.

It feels weird writing of this considering they are one of my favorite bands.
It happens I guess.

They posters were cool though.

tonight was my first show. it was ok at best. not really what i expected. i agree on the fact that they didn't really seem into it, and that the sound was mediocre. especially the vocals. at times it was impossible to hear them at all. i don't know if that's standard, but i was really straining at times to just hear the vocals at all. i still had a good time though, nonetheless, since it WAS my first show.
so the thing about them playing on the wharf was a lie? why would they lie about something like that?

I asked the merch guy. He said Buzzo was just makin shit up.

Buzz has been full of shit  for a long time,so i'd get used to it if you can still get into them.

damn you people are depressing.  buzz said in boston that if anyone drove down to the nyc show and showed their boston driver's license that they would get in for free. then he said, hey, it's worth a try.  he just makes shit up and thinks it's funny, and sometimes it is.  i don't see any reason to get sore about it.  are the melvins REALLY going to come back to the east coast in a few weeks to play a concert on a fucking wharf for free just to pleasure your pathetic penises?  i think not.  don't be so gullible, gullisaurus-rex

I didn't get a chance to see how crowded the place was, but the entire vibe just didn't feel right. I showed up at 8:30 & Trevor Dunn was already finished. I was kinda bummed about that. I saw them at Irving Plaza last year & really wanted to check them out again.

It was the first time I had seen a show at Webster Hall. It kinda felt too big. I remember seeng the Melvins at Northsix in brooklyn for the HAT tour - that place was perfect. I thik it only allowed for 500 people at northsix, though...

I picked up POTRE at the show & played i afterwards - AMAZING. the Pigs stuff they did last night was, IMO, the best.

13th Melvins show....true it wasnt the best Melvins ive seen, but i was at the front right and it seemed to me that the boys were very much into it. Let IT all Be weak????
i dunno bout that...
shirts sucking....
i dunno bout that.
anyway the setlist was great, i am actually glad Jello didnt show up.
The sound to my semideaf ears was fine. POTRE was amazing and Dale is a relentless motherfucker on the drums...
the laughing bit in between the drum outro of blackstooges was hilarious...

its true.
"SwingSet you look like a bunch of guys I know in Ireland.  It's a particular  look I can't describe.  A sort of don't fuck with me or I'll kill you look.
I mean all this in the nicest possible way of course"

I saw them last night and thought the show was awesome.  Why does everything have to be compared with the time before?  I hadn't heard HAT material before, and really liked the way they alternated with classic tunes and noisier stuff.  I do wish they had played longer, but frankly, any chance to see them play is great.  I'm a musician myself, and they are really fucking inspiring.  I've seen them in Houston, Minneapolis, and six times in New York (I missed the North Sixx show, unfortunately, which would have been about the most "intimate" room in town to see them in, and the sound sucked as usual at the Knitting Factory show, but that wasn't their fault, the sound ALWAYS sucks there).

Also, I think that they get off on "disappointing" people's expectations.  That's part of the fun of the Melvins.  Don't take everything so seriously!  They sure as shit don't.  I mean, their first review was negative, and they have always been outsiders of the music scene, impossible to pigeonhole and proud of it.  You ought to be glad they are still rocking out.  I know I am.
