From the recording end, clicks can make stuff sound really mechanical and uninteresting, unless you vary the click slightly or add shuffle to 'humanize' things.

Natural tempo changes are human, and while there are tons of people who like strict industrial techno, I think the natural flow of rock and punk are what makes these styles attractive to people of different ages and cultures. I think it is far more natural to have tempo ebbs and flows.

Yeah, I think they are sometimes Reffered to as *Time Swings* in Jazz music.

Dale said sometimes they have to Use click Tracks when the Guitar is being tracked down before the Rythym Tracks are, like drum and bass.

Right, in some instances click tracks cannot be avoided. Generally, these passages are short-enough in duration that the repetitive nature and precision of the click isn't noticed when the whole song is completed.

And it can get really interesting when an entire track is clicked, and then non-clicked rhythms are overdubbed. The non-clicked will mask the clicked track and make it more natural sounding. BUT, the drummer has to have a damn good internal rhythm, which is a non issue with most professional bands.
