Walk you through it Hanzy...


If it powers on, and youre not getting sound-

Check Switches and pots for dust, If thats not it, Open it up...Look for any broken Connection in the boards or a loose Wire somewhere..if that yeilds no shorts, Then the next step is check the FUSES!!! make sure they arent dead, Make sure the housing clips that hold the fuses in place are not corroded or oxidized and they are making solid connection with the Fuse.


If youre getting power, and sound, but the volume is low or distorted-

The cause could be a bad component, see if you can spot any resistors or caps that look burnt or are heating up too much.

IF thats not it, take a pic of the inside of it and I might be able to show it to one of the pros at www.tapeheads.net

they can get you going if I cannot.

Thanks, I will look into it tomorrow.  FYI, the right speaker works fine, the left one is nothing but fuzz.  So it's partially working, partially on the fritz.

that HAS to be dust somewhere in a connection. WHAT IS THE MODEL # !!!

Give me the Model Number of the amp and I can have this solved before breakfast tommorow without even taking a look.

check all switches and actuators and pots for crackling.

Its more than likely Dust rather than a bad component, but I could be wrong...I would have to hear the type of Distortion your picking up to determine if its dust or a bad resistor.

My Sony amp would do that from time to time for no reason when it powers on, just give me hum. It means current is going somewhere it shouldnt be going. it would be moody due to cold more than anything else.

I will ask a fellow Tapehead what to check first. Standard operating procedure.

I agree. I wouldn't write it off just yet though. I think once he gets more into the swing of playing acoustically it'll be a different story.

Hes got more Balls for doing this than a LOT of other musicians.

Well, I've just taken the time-out to watch the YouTube vids from Buzz's lil' tour.  In my honest opinion, he should keep his day-job.  This will never replace Melvins. Buzz would do well to study some acoustic guitar from a master like Jimmy Page.  It wasn't easy for Mr. Page to transition to acoustic, but he worked really hard at it.  Buzz is basically playing electric on an acoustic guitar.  Don't get me wrong; it's not worthless.  I love even Buzz's most meager efforts because they are honest.  He lacks a certain pretense in even his greatest endeavors.  Gawd bless his pointed little head!!

Why must one always compare this and that? This is a mini-project, a test or experiment, Buzz & co do whatever they want to. I would also hate if this came in the way of the day job, but it doesn`t. And economically it`s pretty wise of Buzz, he brings only his name and guitar, the logistics are to a minimum, he knows people will pay to see him and they do, I`m sure he can have a very good margin on the plus-side on this tour/project. And most important, there is no sign of getting tired of touring it seems, many bands rest for years, we are lucky to not be in that situation. PS! I think critique like that from Yanayaya must be tolerated and not erased by someone grumpy with the power. Yes to freedom of speech!

Buzz actually did play a little bit of acoustic guitar on a few Melvins songs in the past.  I think there was one near the end of Bootlicker, and a song on Tres Cabrones, if I'm not mistaken.
