Blew it?

Pretty on target ... though some of those just weren't that great to begin with ...

Never dug on Isis, shit just bores me ... older, newer ... whatever, boring.

Replacements? Never got the fanfare there. Sounds like some "gritty" stuff the cast of Friends would dig.

Husker Du ... good ... but not great ... but yeah, Zen's the cut off for sure.

Birthday Party/Nick Cave ... there is some solo Cave I think stands shoulders w/ the Birthday Party (say up to Tender Prey) but man, his solo moves have been pretty horrible the last 20yrs. or so ...
I have pretty much the same opinion as you do about this stuff, I never got into Birthday Party. Just awful.

Oh man, I freaking LOVE The Birthday Party. Just Amazing!
It was a big night out on the town for the Id and the Reptile Brain ...

like a brick wall, like a dream waiting to be!

The Birthday Party are one of The ALL TIME greats (But I'm a fan of all things Nick Cave so chances are I'm a little biased)

QuoteI could not be bothered to see them live now. I saw them in the early '80s and it sounded like amplified motocross.

I'm sorry but I can't get into The Birthday Party. Sounds like bad goth and post punk wonkery to me.

PorcoRosso

I am suprised at the bored of Isis's sound comments.
I mean , to each their own, but I was still surprised .
I thought they were epic , kinda like the Grails.

All pretty much right on the mark, except I would argue that "Loose Nut" & "In My Head" are great albums, even with the subpar crappy '80s production. Also "Who's Got The 10-1/2?" is one of the greatest live albums of all time. Kira owns on that one. The final '86 tour was where things got a little stale, with the Rudy Sarzo clone on board after Kira got the boot. Everything you need to know about Black Flag is 100% correct according to Brian Walsby in his "Manchild" books.

I agree with this.

Loose Nut, The Process of Weeding Out and In My Head are amazing albums and really are a great final chapter in the Black Flag discography.

I do like Who's Got The 10 1/2?, but man that drummer is no Bill Stevenson - so I have to go with Live 84.

Greg Ginn firing Bill Stevenson and replacing him with the mullet drummer guy was a bad move. Kira has told me horror stories of having to get that guy in line because he couldn't keep time for shit. Then once Greg fired Kira and replaced her with the Rudy Sarzo clone it was way over.

But, we were blessed with two amazing Gone albums and Rollins Band. I would say Black Flag quit at the right time.

A killer band would have been Andrew Weiss and Sim Cain with Greg and Henry. But Greg had gone mad by that point, so it would never have been possible.

I also woke up and found out that the Black Flag reunion and album of 2013 were actually just a bad dream. Did not happen. Thank GOD.

A nightmare indeed...
I managed a show at the El Corazon. good energy, but the music... questionable.
got to meet Ginn personally after the show. not for long though.
But this is the worst album cover of all time:

I would not buy this, based on the art alone.

Fuck......we share the same nightmares.

I hung out with Greg Ginn before a gig in Long Beach maybe 5 years ago. It was Jambang and Texas Taylor Corrugators. The Texas Taylor Corrugators set was amazing. Just improvised music with a lot of leanings to Ornette Coleman's harmolodic electric music. Jambang was questionable. Same players, different music.

We smoked a SHIT LOAD of hash. I mean a SHIT LOAD. Talked music, talked about his influence on me as a musician, talked about the music he is making now, talked about why he would never reform Black Flag because it would be "weak" (his words) and he has no interest in going into the past with his music and only moving forward.

Damn that was some good hash.
