QuoteThe Burning of Rome, an avant-garde pop rock band, has just recently released their fourth LP, The Year of the Ox. The album was produced by Paul Leary (Butthole Surfers guitarist, U2/Sublime/Meat Puppets producer) and includes guest musicians Matt Chamberlain (Pearl Jam original drummer), Dale Crover (Melvins/Nirvana drummer), and Josh Freese (NIN/A Perfect Circle drummer). The group released the album's single, "God of Small Things," earlier this month. You can listen to the single by clicking

I really hate that "God of Small Things" reminds me of Coldplay.   :?  Hopefully the rest is good.
Buttholeman is a power tripping emotional abuser.  He censors my posts and says I need mental health help.  He's a jerk.  Please don't listen to him.  People DO love and respect your opinions.  I'm one of those people.  I love you. PM me if you're stressed.

If a band has 3 guest drummers on an album, am I correct to infer that they don't have a drummer?  :-k

I was listening to this again.

Dale is listed as guest on the bonus track, "Animal". Nowhere else do I see credits for the drummers.

Josh Freese, Matt Chamberlain, and Creepy Crover are all world class rock drummers in their own right. I can't understand why they would make such a big deal out of these session players, but not identify who is on which recording.

I don't love the album, but there is some great drumming on it. The things that particularly caught my ear were in "Random Acts of Violence", "Better Than He", and maybe "Patria o Muerte", but all of them sound as much like metronomic session work as they do Dale. I know he's capable of all those rudiments and shuffle beats, but you don't just hire Dale to play like any other drum clinician.

So my guess is they hired Josh, Matt, Dale, and maybe even another unlisted session player to each play on a song, then they decided to finish the album with whoever cranked them out the fastest/cheapest. But they still wanted Dale in the press release, so even though they cut that song (Animal) from the official album track list, they still included it as a bonus track.

Anyone know more about this project?
