I will too, but here's the deal. When I got Freak Puke out of my mail box and played it, I loved it. First listen. Same with (A)SA, NWB, Everybody Loves Sausages, Tres Cabrones, TMKA. It took a few more spins to get into The Bride Screamed Murder and Bulls And Bees. However, when I put on anything from before Stoner Witch, it has either taken some time to get used to what exactly is going on, or it's just not working for me, at all. I fully admit, it's a me-thing. I'm a corporate-rock, butt-rocker. I'm not into a lot of this jazzy this and that, or artsy-fartsy something or other that all you guys are into, but I'm kind of getting there (incrementally). I would, however, like to toot my own horn, because I don't just abandon the band at the drop of a hat (like a lot of former board members and YouTube commenters). I'll edit my screed. I misrembered some shit.

To be fair to meezer I've always thought Gluey Porch Treatments was kind of overrated by Melvins fans.  It probably would blow my mind if I was hearing it for the first time in 1987 but I feel like almost every other LP they've put out since then is much better. 

I'd probably appreciate it more if they played more than Eye Flies live as well.  I remember thinking The Mechanical Bride was one of the weaker tracks on A Senile Animal until I saw it live and was just floored by it.  It's one of my favorite ASA songs now!

Here's weird ... today after like 25yrs. I reconnected with the dude who first introduced me to the Melvins ...

Met this guy first year of high school ... I was deep into HC/Punk/Thrash ... he was deeper ... had toured with DRI, and COC, was pen pals with everyone from Jello and Walsby to The Spermbirds ... dude really opened my horizons in terms of all of that and had like every album, 7 inch, and demo tape ...

Anyway, knowing I was into heavy shit he recommend the Melvins ... GTP had just dropped ... so I picked it up ... and was absolutely floored ... it was perfect ... I mean COC, B'LAST, et al was doing it for me up till then ... but dear God ... when I heard GTP it was like what I always imagined and wanted to hear ... and there it was oozing out them speakers, through the clouds of hash smoke, and perfectly right into my demented little head ... I was already familiar with other Alchemy releases (Clown Alley, Sacrilege B.C.) but this just killed all of that ... it was; and still is perfect ... the riffs, the syrupy bent and pulled cords, the drums, Buzz's sneering & slurred vocals, that tone, the immenseness, the huge space around, in, and through everything ... completely obtuse and completely right ... that summer was spent on one of two poles ... Melvins GTP and Napalm Death's SCUM ... man those were some days.

I thought Gluey Porch Treatments was kind of overrated for a long time too. I thought it was a good album but I kept wondering why Melvins fans raved about it so much on the internet... Suddenly after a few years of being a Melvins fan, it just clicked. One day I was like, "Oh... I get it, now." I remember this epiphany fondly. I've never had that happen with any other album, to that extent.  It was a cool feeling. I wish they would play more songs live other than Eye Flies, but sadly Buzz probably doesn't remember the songs. To be fair, if there's one song from this album they should play, it's Eye Flies.


Your comment about The Mechanical Bride is interesting. The first time I heard that song, it FLOORED me. I thought it was amazing, and I remember thinking "this is the song that's going to have the fans talking"... As it turned out, A History Of Bad Men seemed to be that song. Anyway, I would love to see The Mechanical Bride live, and I hope they play it again. I talked to Coady at a Big Business show a couple years ago, and somehow that song came up. He said something to the extent of how he loves that song, but that it didn't really work live. I guess you'd disagree!

Yeah it was a pretty awesome time ... best was I got to see all them bands (the whole noise rock AM Rep, new heavy crust stuff, alot of early harsh noise, and other fucked upness) when it was emerging ... it was a good time to be 15 ... best is while my musical horizons grew in every direction I never lost that stuff along the way and it all still plays very heavily in my day to day

First time I heard Mechanical Bride it was live, Senile Animal didn't come out yet and I didn't listen to the leak. So it was cool, I just didn't know what the hell they were playing, which was most of the setlist that night.
