Paris is growing on me the more I visit. The 11th district (where we are today) has everything. It would be the place to go to hang out with friends, go to gigs, have lunch, stay out all night, etc. The locals are worried that it's soon going to become another hipster hell, but I think there's time left to enjoy it before it does. It's true there are recently-laid hipster eggs in their nests of barely convincing facial hair on a couple of street corners here, but they were hard to spot. Hopefully the real people can keep them at bay.

Again, I arrived at the venue the same time as the bands. It tends to happen in much the same way as womens' moon-sicknesses tend to synchronise when hanging out together. The science of it is beyond me, it just happens this way. First conversation of the morning went exactly like this:

ME  Hey, what the fuck are you doing here?
BUZZ  Hey, man, how's it going?
ME  Every time I go on holiday, you're here.
BUZZ  It's the first time ever.
ME  What? That you play at the Bataclan?
BUZZ  The first time EVER!
ME  WHAT?
BUZZ  The first time EVER that we managed to find a parking space right in front of a venue in Paris.
ME     You must feel very lucky.
BUZZ  The first time EVER!
ME  (walking off)  See you guys later.
BUZZ  (shouting down the street)  EVER!!

Once I've worked out where the venue is in comparison to where I want to eat and drink, it's a matter of sitting back and waiting for the friends to arrive. In this case Le Chat Noir followed by the UFO. The staff at the UFO saw Melvins shirts and played Melvins for the rest of our stay.  8)

Inevitably, the time comes when we have to stop and walk to the venue. The merch table is growing with posters now! They're not selling out, so tonight we have the Bristol, Tilburg, Angers AND tonight's poster - if you buy two bits of merch, you get a Tilburg poster free to carry them home in. Time to meet more Boardie. Pleasure to meet Garnz and Mrs.Garnz.

Less than two months ago it was the Melvins playing there and today such a tragedy happened there.

Did not realize the coincidence of this thread until now. This is all too sad, I don't even know what to say. I hope no board members and anyone else who lives nearby France are in any danger in the future

close circles: Have seen the Melvins at Bataclan and Eagles Of Death Metal in Berlin, all this year.
I hope that the happenings in Paris do not lead to less acceptance of refugees in Europe.

I'm alright, I was at Fred Wesley's gig few kms north from Paris. Got something like ten phone calls or so in less than half an hour from family and friends and I didn't know what the hell was going on... Bombing occurred about the time Wesley was playing his song "Peace Power". Fucking lame.
All the gigs in France have been cancelled for the weekend, everywhere.
A mate of a good friend of mine died at le Bataclan. Another good friend was at le Stade de France for the match but he's safe, we avoided a lot of trouble there, "only" four people were killed, it could have been much worse with 80.000 people in the stadium.
I work for the COP21 and I'm getting a bit unenthusiastic about it, we had some fun talking about the fact that it may be the best occasion for bombing with 80 heads of state present there. I'm not even sure the event will take place, I'll have some more news next week.
Sad sad day.

glen

expect to see me at twice as many shows in 2016.    I will not be intimidated into avoiding one of the joys of my life.    I will not allow that to be taken from me.

banana love to all affected.      if and when the day comes that the bataclan reopens for business look me up Paris-site boardies.  I'll buy your ticket in.
