I like Steven's bass skills and he has good energy during live shows. However, I'm not really a fan of his singing or songwriting. I thought Jared fit great with the band, especially vocally. Would love to see Big Business rejoin the Melvins. Kevin would probably be my next favorite Melvins bassist of this century; though watching him live was a bit unnerving.

Classy Kevin!
Looked totally fucked up but played very great and intense, ahah!

Not just the playing, but i loved all the weirdo effects he contributed to songs too. HAT in particular has loads of that stuff and works so well. It may never happen but i do long for at least one more Melvins with Kevin album! Although i suppose 'Three Men And A Baby' was that little treasure.

me $0.02:
Steven is here to stay - for all the reasons that Sadcorps listed. he fits in with them on such a level I don't think I've seen them have with anybody else except Kevin. They all get along really well both musical and friends.  I can't imagine they would move on without him at this point. A new bassist now I think would be too much a challenge to accommodate at this late in their game (2 years till 40th!!)
I would personally enjoy seeing them pull in an earlier punk influence, that Steven has the pedigree for (hanging out sharing a practice space with Black Flag when you're 12 years old.... jeez!), more than the glam-rock, that he excels at. the snot-mean punk sound on the Melvins stinks so good. imo.

Kevin is the beautifully UGLY side of the MELVINS, he fit 'em like a found used condom fits a too large dick with a tattoo along the shaft in old english script that says "Everybody Is Welcome". gross.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Melvins Hepa-Titus Big Band!!

I like Steven.
What a fabulous room. Are all these your guitars?

Ya know what.... whoever melvins wants to play bass ,by golly, that's who they want to play bass, and no matter what.... it's gonna fucking rule, because the motherfucking melvins rule!

Best band EVER! No matter who's on the four string!

The newest issue, #77, of JUICE skateboard magazine ("pools, pipes & punk rock") has a 4 page interview with Steven about the history of Red Cross / Redd Kross. Great read.

That topic and some of the messages here show how a "Fan Forum" can be weird... Some are placing bets, some are telling they know what's good for the band or not, blah blah... Sometimes it's really fascinating here!  :)

I've always said I'm not a "real fan" of anything or anyone because fan means Fanatical, eheh!
Well, fan means ventilator too. Life's weird!

I bet Steven is a poppy secret agent sent by the French Incontinent Secular Rigorists (or the well and badly known F.I.S.R.) according to a vast plan of destroying the Punk Sludge feeling of the band!

And for those who might be wondering, yes, Steven is a skateboarder.  :D

Yeah, I saw him skate off after they played ,down the street, which made me very happy because I am a skater , of course I just broke my fucking elbow recently for life and I don't think I'll ever be able to skate again, but, that made me like him very much more. So long live Steven and long live Steven in the Melvins....

I'm sorry to keep bringing Kevin back up, but really what I want more than anything is for the cows to get back together, I want somebody to go talk to ThoR
Eisentrager and fucking make him play guitar with those fucking creeps again, they were such a fucking bad ass band, and Thor is one of the best fucking guitar players other than Paul Leary and buzz that I've ever fucking heard my my life ( my dumb ass opinion). Fucking Shannon is the most scariest front man I've ever encountered, one time when they played in town I went to go tell them how much I loved them all, and I walked right up to Shannon and he gave me a look that scared me, and I walked away.... when Buzz produced  their last record I knew it was gonna be fucking amazing, and it was, and I saw them on that tour, and I was so stoked. Then, I heard that Kevin join the Melvins , I was fucking so happy. Then I found out the cows broke up and I drank a case of beer, smoked a bunch of crack, ate a bunch of hash, took a bunch of Lunestra sleeping pills, smoked some speed, and set a building on fire....

since when is steven in pink mountaintops
I like Steven as a person, but i wouldn't be very sad if he wasn't in Melvins any more. Although im sure this development is just a short term thing. Perhaps even just for that music video.

From some website:

"This May, Pink Mountaintops will release their new album Peacock Pools, which started out as McBean recording demos by himself at his house outside LA early in the pandemic. For this album, the band's lineup includes fellow Black Mountain members, as well as musicians who have played in Destroyer, Death Valley Girls, and Ryley Walker's band. Ty Segall collaborator Emily Rose Epstein joins in on vocals, and legends like Redd Kross' Steven McDonald and Melvins' Dale Crover make contributions."
