Nice find Butt. This album idea definitely sounds like something interesting, generally i like a good concept record. Although i admit i am a little apprehensive about how Melvins would handle that. But i'll wait to hear it first of course. I wonder if it would be chronological over the course of the record? Each song referring (roughly) to a different decade or whether it would be all over the map. When Steven said Buzz asked "Jeff" he did mean Jeff McDonald right? Not Pinkus?? When i first read that i automatically thought he meant Pinkus. Sadcorps is going to flip out over this!! His dream of Redd Kross and Melvins finally realised!!

I think it is interesting in that article how Steve says "...we're making a new Melvins record" but judging by his comments as regards the concept record, that seems to be at the very early, initial stages. At a point where Steve himself doesn't know much about it. So i wonder if that's actually a bit further down the line (for possibly for a 2018 release) and what they are currently working on is something else entirely. From what little news snippets/rumors we receive, it seems like these albums might be stacked in the queue behind whatever they recorded last Winter for release next year.

To me, much of, if not most, of the melvins' discography has consisted of "concept records," at least in the sense that each album is its own world, to borrow a phrase Mike Patton once used to describe what he liked about the melvins. It seems like they started getting away from that around Nude With Boots, and each album since, with the exception of The Bulls and the Bees, has felt more and more like a random collection of songs -- albeit, often fucking great songs.

If they want to go with an outright common theme or narrative to their next album, I'm on board, but as far as I'm concerned they've been there, done that.

Agreed. I think many of their records DO have a larger theme but unlike the common concept records we know and love (or hate!) the band haven't made that fact public. 'This Machine Kills Artists' for example is, im sure, a record about downloading and the computer age.
