Since there are people on here that are much more in the know than the rest, does anyone know whats the longest set ever played, either what gig or tour? Is 1 hour and 15 minutes the norm or has there been occasions where they`ve really jammed and droned their way into a set that lasted way longer? 1 hour and 15 is good, but with bands I love, there is nothing better than to have them on stage in 2 hours or more. Anyone?

))))((((

There was those Endless Residency gigs a few years ago where they played two full albums back to back with a little break in between. I would imagine those must be up there with their longest ever sets.

they also played double sets in 1996 with Mark D and in 2000 (2 x 4 tour) with Kevin and David Scott Stone.
in 2009 they would start as melvins lite (buzz and dale only) for the 1st set and then being joined by the Big Business guys for a second full melvins set.
that's what I know of, I am sure there's more...

Ahh, how could I forget, I was there the 19th when they played Lysol and Houdini. About two hours.

I recall hearing they did some triple sets in 96 spanning over two hours so those would have to be the longest.

After Buzzo's comments about shows being too long and that 30 minutes is the optimal time to see a band, i can't see them doing triple sets ever again!

Also it is interesting that someone has gone and added 'Planet Destructo' to the setlist there. I know it is an old song/jam though. Im just surprised someone trawled through the audio or such.

I was at that show.  One of my favorite Melvins experiences ever!

Yep. The three set shows done on the Stag tour would probably be the longest. Regular Melvins opening, followed by a set with Mark on guitar and Buzz on bass, followed by a regular Melvins set.

Also the Midnight shows at the Capitol Theater in Olympia back in the Lorax days and during the Stag tour were super long too.

I would prefer a shorter Melvins set than even what they are playing now. I prefer 45 minutes for any band.

Didn't the Spaceland residency include a show where they played one song off every album?
I recall Buzz saying it was "too damn long".

In fact that was one of my favorite live music weekends ever as I saw Neurosis on the Through Silver In Blood tour the next night.  We were talking with Dale outside the venue before their show telling him our plans for the next night and he said "Oh!  I love those guys.  Tell them I said hey!".  At the Melvins show I saw Pat Smear.  I got a Melvins Army shirt that night.  It's almost falling apart.

Can somebody explain why was it called "2x4"? Is that a reference to something?
(I suspect it's some American thing and that's why I don't get it)
