Or maybe they just don't know the band is still around. I was wearing a Melvins shirt out a couple weeks ago and this middle-aged guy stopped me on the street to talk about how back in the 80s and early 90s, the Melvins and Meat Puppets were his two all-time favorite bands and that he wonders whatever happened to the Melvins. His mind was blown when I told him they were still making music and that I got that shirt at a show a few blocks from where he was standing like a year earlier. So I guess it's possible?
