I can guarantee you they are no fun band.

I love how this is supposed to be viewed in a positive way. "Hey did you see that new movie? It was no fun at all!"

Those who understand what I write, understands. I get happy by Melvins meaaness live. Buzz never utter a word, he just steps around, creating magic with his guitar
in his mumu, almost in a Jimi Hendrix way. It`s by no means a chewing gum happy go lucky band like Foo Fighters or Red Kross and will never be. And for me that`s fun to watch, that makes me happy. I did not like all the silliness of that bass player from Big Business, I prefer Steven by a mile. He may have some silly jumps now and then, but he`s generally the perfect third member of the band.

And ShitKid write amazing songs. For example, the songs "You", "Favourite Thing" and "Sugar Town" are stellar.

I for one am thankful that Melvins are bringing them out on the road. Beats the fuck out of some of the openers I have seen.

Well, I listened to a couple of Shitkid things and wasn't real impressed and I'm not going to go out of my way to look for more.... but I'm keeping an open mind until I actually see them live.

I saw Redd Kross open for STP and Meat Puppets in 94 and all I can remember was that the keyboards were so loud in the mix it ruined the whole thing. could have been STP's sound guy being dumb or spiteful, but who knows. glad they don't have that sound anymore. i'm psyched for this lineup. it's on a Monday (Blechhh!!!). we'll see. still haven't heard Shitkid but based on the fact that the Melvins are making an ep with them and they opened for Dale's recent tour, that seems cool. not sure I can make it in time for their set anyway. who knows?

Think Deep Purple instead of Thompson Twins. The keyboards used on that tour and album "Phaseshifter" filled things out in an incredibly HEAVY way. I wish they still had that element actually.

Foo Fighters is pure garbage. Redd Kross is pure magic.

i, too, am skeptical about Redd Kross... but as good melvins fans we should accept that some bands are delicate to enter and may not be "gotten" after many listens.

I'm with you. I think Steven is a nice counterpoint to Buzz and Dale - weird and a little giddy, but not in an overly cheeky hipstery way. More in a "damn, this guy is really into this shit" sorta way. I'm pretty sensitive to the melvins on-stage (or even audience)  atmosphere getting fucked with, but I found myself strangely ok with Steve's adjustment to it.
