What style are the Melvins better at writing?

I think Melvins have their own unique style - you can't really call it either 'straight-ahead' rock or noise 'rock'. It's all 'melvins' rock. They are a genre unto their own.

What really amazes me is that it seems there are bands (and even genres it seems) that are based on a single Melvins song or album.

i could go either way. i think they write awesome heavy rock songs, but the ones that really get to me are the songs like air breather...., or POTRE, where they can be heavy and experimental at the same time.

I liek the songs like "Honey Bucket" that the lyrics make no sense, those are the best in my opinion, but then again "Oven" is a favorite and that has meaning....But all in all Melvins could record a dog farting and there so awsome that it would rock.....There THE BEST!

To be honest, I have no idea. Only part I think has meaning is "I thought I gave my wedding ring to you." Thats whats so cool about some of there songs, its just a bunch of words, it ROCKS.

A few weeks ago you only owned Houdini and maybe one other album, didn't you? Have you heard all their albums/styles?

ive now got Ozma/Gluey porch treatments, bullhead, lysol, houdini, stoner witch, the bootlicker and pigs of the roman empire. So yeah, i prefer the sludgy side of the melvins, but i like the other albums. Especially stoner witch but the bootlicker is fucking weird.
