Wondering what comes next
« on: July 23, 2021, 08:47:58 PM »
I know 'Five Legged Dog' has only just been announced, but greedily i still can't help myself wondering what comes next beyond it!! Outside of smaller, more boutique Amrep stuff, i can't see anything else Melvins related emerging this year now. But what of 2022? Since the era of Melvins "projects" and rotating line-ups it has for a while been quite difficult to ever predict what the next album will be. Each release seems to surprise us in some way now. Plus we don't have much information to go on.

The last we heard Buzz said he was disappointed that he couldn't tour 'Gift Of Sacrifice' and that he intended to simply make another album this time with Trevor on more equal footing. So that seems somewhat the front runner for what may emerge at some point. Also the recording with Helms Alee has been mentioned a couple of times by the band so that might be an option.

The only other possibly predictable material one might assume could appear would be another record with Steven or perhaps a follow up Melvins Lite offering. Speaking of 'Working With God', Buzz said it was about time that they put out another 1983 album. So i wonder whether that might also factor into his thinking with Melvins Lite.

Im sure whatever it is it will still be a surprise to us all. As a fan, i just hate waiting!!

I’ll bet the Helms Alee songs are released on an Am Rep 10” this winter after Five Legged Dog has some room to breathe.

Is this the longest touring break the Melvins have had since the 80s?  Must feel a bit nice to take a break from being on the road constantly...

little surprised that they haven't booked a short tour or a one-off local show now that gigs have resumed here in in socal.

I bet that after Buzz got burned on his solo tour due to Covid shutdowns, he is waiting to see how all of this shit plays out before booking anything.

Too many bands postponing/cancelling shows mid-tour clearly it's not doable to be out on tour at the moment.

i dunno, i've seen a bunch of shows in the past few months. smart promoters are def pulling it off. i'm not saying a national run, just a local gig to shake off the rust, maybe outdoors, perhaps in my backyard.

Too risky IMO What we're seeing is way too many bands jumped the gun probably a bit desperate financially then a band member or crew member catches Covid and the whole tour gets cancelled.

I won't pretend to know the Melvins guys financial situations (other than Crover saying in an interview a long time ago he makes about $70k a year some of that though possibly Nirvana royalties) but I doubt they're that hard up that they need to go out right now and risk the tour being shutdown 2-3 shows in which is happening a bit.

We know how much the Melvins like making money usually by constantly touring so the fact they aren't out there now and haven't announced an impending tour says a fair bit I think. They're shrewd operators.

Yeah...gotta Primus show on Tuesday I've been going back and forth on attending...man I hate having to make these decisions and I'm sure that's whats going through the Melvins head's right now in terms of trying to launch a tour.

Redd Kross cancelled their 2022 European tour, which had already been rescheduled.. wonder if this decision has to do with Melvins future plans

I keep wondering if the next Melvins album is going to be titled 'Snarling Dogs'. Toshi has hashtagged that on a number of in studio photos/videos on instagram along side linking "Melvinsdotcom" and "RealKingBuzzo". I remember that happened a couple of times with 'Pinkus Abortion Technician' too. A year or so ago i went back and looked at a few old instagram in studio pictures from around that time and the title was there all along!! So "Melvins - Snarling Dogs" even sounds plausible! Additionally in that new Vinyl Guide interview Dale says the band are working on new stuff and when talking about the title of 'Five Legged Dog' he happens to mention that they currently keep using "dogs" in titles.
