oh yeah, I totally hear "Useless King" on "At the Stake." It almost sounds like they tried to do the one song, forgot the lyrics, and sang something ingrained in memory.

Finally listening on my big ass Kenwood stack. Production works for really loud listening.
Also melvins is gay cuz some of their songs are just noise, i tell you this so you all don't buy albums and find out only one two songs is good on them.

yeah, production is not so bad after a proper listening on a stereo. though if you compare Buzz guitar with his solo albums you can tell it could have been recorded a lot better.

I think it is interesting in 'Boris' where the rest of the band fall away and it's just Buzz's voice and guitar. He's so prominent in the mix there. To be expected of course when other elements are removed.

One of the complaints from critics is the lack of melody and hooks when you strip out the electric guitar. I disagree. Buzz is one of the most underrated vocalists, and even if acoustic makes the songs more avant-garde, the vocal melodies and harmonies are stunningly gorgeous. Civilized Worm.....

Yes, i read a review that stated that too. A bit odd really, i would imagine to most serious music fans that it wouldn't matter. That despite such comments, there are actually plenty of things to latch onto in the songs. I think that was a weird thing for someone to complain about. I suppose if someone wasn't already a fan, hearing so many songs and such a long duration might have an effect of all blending into one after a while.

These are some of the most melodic songs in the 30 year+ back catalog! "Up the Dumper," "Billy Fish," "Civilized Worm," "Revolve." Most of them aren't even linear, they some semblance of verse and chorus!

Oh well, you can't please 'em all.

Has the chant part of "Hung Bunny" always had actual semi-lyrics?

The acoustic version is the first time I've heard anything other than "OOOOOAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH."

Now it's "NOOOOOOOOOOW IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII SSEEEEEEEE HERRRRRRRRR." Or something.

Am I losing my mind?
Can you all shut your damn cocks for one second? Music is the only thing that's real in this queef world of dildo ass chodes.

Well, it is every time I've seen them do it live.  :)

Also, this version of "A Growing Disgust" is the best one since I first saw them do it as Big Melvins in '12.

I saw them do "Hung Bunny/Roman Dog Bird" in maybe 2018 with Steven and those chant lyrics were not there yet. The chant lyrics are present on the Melvins TV/Livestream Obscene performance, though I'm not sure if that's significantly different.

the bloat

Earlier, I had mentioned that all proper LPs have a song on five legged dog, however I found a snippet of untitled from HAT at the end of civilized worm. So now it seems that only hold it in and the Maggot are not represented here. Loving this album so far!
