Black Donut Records putting out a Melvins tribute. Found out through Ralph Schaarschmidt (YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!) and had to share.

Not surprised, but haven't we had enough covers of 90s Melvins? Wish they'd do a 2000+ Melvins covers record. At least we get Pinkus covering himself

Really cool Olde got a song on there.   Greg Dawson from Olde is such a great guitarist and sound engineer.  He is an acquaintance I've known for about 20-30 years.

Listening to a bit of this on bandcamp streaming now to pass time. Grizzlor and Bovine Nightmares sound closest to the original songs from what I can tell. Work Party's cover of "Skin Horse" is really good. Trigger Cut's cover of "Lizzy" is weirdly charming in how "off" it feels.

Bovine Nightmares' take on "The Bit" is the one I'd probably return to most. They threw some rhythmic and vocal variations in that are welcome surprises, plus an Easter egg at the end.

That version of "Revolve" is kind of a trainwreck.

"Skin Horse" was pretty good.

All the 89-93 stuff kinda blew past like "oh yep here's a band covering old Melvins favorites"

Pinkus's banjo is the best part of "Bride" but it's also a bit incongruous, and at least mixed awkwardly.

couple things...

first thing:  I just listened to that skin horse cover.  it made me want to punch somebody in the face.

second thing:  can we call an official end to all covers of OVEN?   let's just let that one go man.    it's an all time great song, obviously.   and sometimes all time great songs should be left alone.
