Apparently a ten minute version of Lacrimosa exists? This has been a fun listen!

He also talks about the alternate Tipping The Lion and Interstellar Overdrive too

Sweet!!!!

He produced Rock N Roll Nightmare by Rich Kids on L.S.D. which is one of the greatest albums of 1987 (the best year for music ever). I cannot wait to dig into this!

These are really cool videos, full of interesting information.
I also like that from time to time you can see the cover of dark magus right behind marks head (if I am not mistaken). Awesome record!

What else would you hold in such high esteem from 1987? That's not a year that sticks out in my brain like 1991 or 1967

Sorry to butt in but Pain Of Mind was my all time fave of 1987.

That Neurosis debut is a good one. 1987 was also Locust Abortion Technician, Appetite for Destruction, Criminal Minded, Bum Rush the Show, Scum, and Gluey Porch Treatments (though for some reason I had pegged this as 1986 in my mind. Maybe because Six Songs came out then?)

I'm still rather arsed beyond that. Dischord was in a weird transitional state. Sub Pop hadn't really launched. Hip hop was dragging its feet aside from those two seminal albums I mentioned. Anarchopunk was rather dead. Detroit hadn't quite produced acid yet. Dance music in the UK was goofy as fuck.

It was an OK year for compilations like the Dukes of Stratosphere, Give Me Convenience, or the Smiths. I fucking hate U2 generally, so I don't really care how great Joshua Tree was.

Those are amazing years too!!!!

OK - 1987, I was 14/15 years old - so that might have a lot to do with it. Started going to see punk shows and skateboarding and smoking pot too, so that fits in with the scene too! 1986 and 1988 also hold a special place in my heart for music!

Top 5

#1 Album of 1987 = Melvins - Gluey Porch Treatments
#2 Album of 1987 = Redd Kross - Neurotica
#3 Album of 1987 = Rich Kids on L.S.D. - Rock 'n Roll Nightmare
#4 Album of 1987 = Rollins Band - Life Time
#5 Album of 1987 = NoMeansNo - Sex Mad
#6 Album of 1987 = Butthole Surfers - Locust Abortion Technician
#7 Album of 1987 = Soundgarden - Screaming Life

And then in no particular order:

Dirty Rotten Imbeciles - Crossover
Metallica - The $5.98 EP - Garage Days Re-Revisited
Descendents - ALL
Dag Nasty - Wig Out at Denko's
Ramones - Halfway to Sanity
Bl'ast - It's In My Blood
Meat Puppets - Mirage
Negativland - Escape From Noise
Sonic Youth - Sister

Honorable mentions, or albums I really was digging then:

Whiplash - Ticket to Mayhem
Excel - Split Image
Death Angel - The Ultra-Violence
Exodus - Pleasures of the Flesh
Circle Jerks - VI
Red Hot Chili Peppers - The Uplift Mofo Party Plan

And albums I wasn't hip to until wayyyy later that came out in 1987 (if only I had Spotify back then or a lot of extra cash!)

Anthrax - Among the Living
Neurosis – Pain of Mind
Napalm Death - Scum
Pixies - Come On Pilgrim
Death - Scream Bloody Gore
Tom Waits - Frank's Wild Years
Public Enemy - Yo! Bumrush The Show

Yeah - there were some good comps like Give Me Convenience and the Minutemen - Post Mersh series.

And fuck U2! hahaha!!! I even listened to Joshua Tree while driving through Joshua Tree and it still did nothing for me.

Dukes of Stratosphear,

I love them.

That was 1987?

I have to say, XTC and Dukes are fucking amazing. I had no idea until maybe 10 years ago?
