Apparently you would get the digital download anyway because it is included with the vinyl, but whatever, Bandcamp is great.

I'm comparing "Harvel" from the split series to the one on Broken Pipe EP

It might be the same recording, but it's at least a noticeably different mix. I think Buzz vocals on this one sit better. Not sure if the wild synths are different.

Also, the new one is 2:00 and the old one is 3:27. The song itself is the same length, but the old one had a stick click lead-in, then some extra stuff at the end. Those extra sounds are
* an analog synth making some burbling noise
* an excerpt from Sesame Street of a character named Melvin who does everything with the letter M
* a few seconds of a drum jam from outside a rehearsal space[?]

I'm probably going to make a combined disc for myself of these two releases, so I might Frankenstein them together again. I like all those bonus noises and the lead-in

))))((((

Just listening through the EP, i like it. The David Yow track wasn't what i was expecting (i thought it might be more of a regular song) but it was good and fits firmly within the Melvins wheelhouse. All round a fairly decent EP - Harvel being my favourite track.

A few fun facts:

I wrote the music for Harvel back in '97 after seeing the Melvins for the first time in my hometown of Geelong, Australia (Alive At The fucker Club was recorded two days later).

What sounds like synths on Harvel are actually guitars recorded through a Tascam GS-30D and out into Toshi's desk..

I used to rent a rehearsal space in downtown Los Angeles opposite the Melvins during the Big Biz era. One day I was trying to record some songs with a friend who was visiting from Australia, but the Melvins were so loud we couldn't record anything.

The sound of the "drum jam" that Amazon mentions was what I recorded that day coming from across the hall!

LOL we had the same problem with our practice room next door to Cathedral's. In the end we gave up and just went to see Cathedral!

I had a similar issue but it was with a bagpipe heavy metal covers band called Bags of Rock. That just made me go home.

I'm a Joyful Noise Early Bird VIP and when I got the early notice of the lathe cut 7" and shirt for this on Tuesday, I tried to order but my password wasn't working and the reset password email wasn't doing anything.  When it was announced to everyone yesterday, I was able to get in but the credit card for my PayPal recently expired and I hadn't updated my account with the new card.  After getting my PayPal account updated, the 7" was already sold out.  Probably all my fault but pretty bummed

I'm a VIP and wasn't getting my discount at checkout so I sent an email for help and they got back to me later after it sold out. I should have just bought it and sorted it later, but I'm pretty annoyed since I pay for the subscription every month and hardly order from them. Thanks for letting me vent.
Well, we'll always have "In the Air Tonight." Will that be your most enduring song?
You know, that song won't lie down. It just won't go away. I mean, there's a Mike Tyson moment associated with it now. It's just bizarre. I guess it has a bit of mystery, a lot of atmosphere, and the drums coming in, pinning people to the wall.

I'm still a VIP but not early bird. I did that for one year. It's a cool program for people who actively play vinyl. I don't so it was basically just a storage liability.

I didn't order the seven inch. But I have had good experience with JNR shipping and customer service before. They're a great example of how a record label should run.

This year was my first time doing Early Bird and I've been happy enough that I already signed up for next year.  Some fun surprises, bands I've never heard and some I've never heard of.  Cherry on the top was VIP of Dale's album with bonus flexi.  Only slight concern is the subscription was supposed to include 3 exclusive lathe singles.  I haven't received any yet and it's almost December.  I have my next shipment arriving next week and I'm always patient about stuff like this.
