this was my fourth time seeing the melvins and again i was not let down. Dalek was ok but they got old after a while. as always the melvins sound was tight as fuck. buzz and kevin had F and U really big on their moo moos. Kevin had the F and Buzz sported the U. but i must say i have never heard better vocals from buzz than this show. he was really on the money this show. the set was something like this: some will be out of order:

Fool Meddling Idiot
zodiac
at a crawl (nice to hear some old shit)
brain center
mombuis hibachi
revolve
let it all be
the bloat
the bit
black stooges
see how pretty see how smart
night goat (always bad ass, the crowd went nuts)

there might be one or two i missed because they linked a few songs together. Tomahawk was ok. their stuff kind of lost me for a while, but i also wasn't paying close attention. Pattons vocals were really good though. i especially liked the song that he sung all in spanish. There were quite a few shirts at the merch table, i got myself a happy halloween bith shirt. So another great show has passed again, i can't wait til next year.

Melvins went on at about 9:50. They played for about 50 minutes. It was probably the most boring mix of good songs I've ever heard; it was like a Melvins show primer for a novice (I think maybe they're setlisting for Patton fans), meaning there was nothing new or inventive about the set. If you're on the fence about going to see the Melvins on this tour, don't go unless you haven't seen them in the last few years. Mombius Hibachi was about it as far as being interesting, and I think that's just because I like the song so much rather than it being something other than what they've been playing of late. The venue was a large place I've only been to once before; the close by Magic Stick is a better venue, if for no other reason than that parking isn't all gone when there's a show there because it's a smaller place. The Majestic does have the virtue of being less smokey because of the very large space between the floor and the ceiling, and it's hard to find a bad vantage point, but there were too many people at the show. Surprisingly, they were less assy than people usually are at Melvins shows. They had the trilogy on vinyl for $50 if people are still looking for it. I missed Dalek. Sorry, Dalek. I bought a Dalek vs Kid 606 Cd to help compensate... Tomahawk was more interesting than the Melvins, but that may just be because I've only seen them once before, and they're at least playing material that's new to me. Unlike the Melvins. Not that the irony of Tomahawk playing for 10 minutes longer than the Melvins wasn't around; Tomahawk has what? Maybe 10% of the amount of material the Melvins have? So, to sum up: the Geek Show is pretty cheap, but you get what you pay for. Take your friends who can't be bothered to see the Melvins normally, since they play a bunch of good songs. But get ready to be really bored unless you haven't gotten your ass out to see them in awhile.
