I was interested in looking at their longest songs. So in all their glory here is all the songs over 10+ minutes!! Technically does Joe's track still count? Plus i suppose one could also include Colossus Of Destiny??

22:58   Hands First Flower
22:29   Pigs Of The Roman Empire
15:51   The Anti-Vermin Seed
14:43   Divorced
14:20   Roll Another One
14:09   Mister Dog Is Totally Right
12:50   Charmicarmicat
12:39   Paraquat Plus
12:33   Hung Bunny / Roman Dog Bird (Acoustic)
12:12   Air Breather Deep In The Arms Of Morphius
12:11   House Of Gasoline
11:27   The Man With The Laughing Hand Is Dead
11:20   Station To Station
10:59   Hung Bunny
10:53   Black Sabbath
10:47   Let It All Be
10:32   See How Pretty, See How Smart
10:13   Spread Eagle Beagle

Couple things I noticed:

See How Pretty and Moon Pie are actually under ten minutes. They both have bits of silence (See How Pretty is about six minutes, Moon Pie about seven) before a hidden "bonus track" pops up. Depends on if the silence counts. If so the last song on Honky at nearly 30 minutes is a shoo-in.

There's also the acoustic Halo of Flies which is over ten minutes.

Colossus is a weird one. On one hand it's a live recording so in the context of this thread it shouldn't really count but in another sense it literally is it's own weird entity that could be the exception to the rule. If it counts then by default the longest Melvins composition at about close to 50 minutes, excluding Eye Flys obviously.

I always hate those things on albums - the silences then a hidden track. I wish bands wouldn't do that although it seems less common now.

If you mean the one on Five Legged Dog then it isn't actually. It's just over 8 minutes. Although i agree it does feel longer than that.

Isn't hung bunny' from lysol over ten minutes? 10:42 to be exact
"im ol' south!" -wf (2009)

Since the Joe Preston EP was released prior, I've often wondered if Hands First Flower influenced the droning, doom sounds of Lysol. Hung Bunny / Roman Bird Dog have always sounded (to me) like an extension of Joes idea. Does anyone have any more info on that? Did that genre even exist before Joe laid this long-ass, heavy song to tape?

Before the Joe Preston EP you basically had the first Earth EP and demos as far as drone/doom goes but the band's sound that early on bordered on being really slow noise rock if anything. But Joe was in the band at that time too.

I refuse to believe that Hung Bunny and Roman Dog Bird are separate songs. That should be in the top five. I forget exactly how long it is. And yes, COD is one single recorded performance of a composition with a title. The live version commercially released is the canonical recording. Count it. Or count it as "Eye Flys" if you prefer.

Can't count "Let It All Be". Clearly it's a regular length song with a hidden bonus track.

Also I don't remember "Moon Pie" being that long. Isn't it like six minutes with some silence or something?

Let It All Be actually sounds like two different songs together. But we only think of it like that because we are so used to hearing them perform the first "song" live without the other bit. But other Melvins songs feel like that too. I mean Pain Equals Funny has a 5 minute actual song and then 14 minutes of developing noise. So if they played it live and only performed the first bit it would also feel like the rest wasn't really part of the song. When clearly it is it's own track on the album.

Moon Pie you're right on though. I'll delete that one. I mean it's technically only about 5 minutes but then a load of silence before a bit at the end. To a much lesser extent the same is said of See How Pretty, See How Smart.

They All Must Be Slaughtered should have ran about another 5 minutes or so and cracked the top 10 of this list.
..in my perfect world.

also, you forgot In the Freaktose the Bugs Are Dying.   it buries all of these in both the real world and my perfect world.

Good question! I'm not sure. I've not heard it so i'm not sure if it is just a remix (in which case NOT) or another recording (in which case YES).
