I think it is interesting that the band are currently putting a studio record out every single year! Now it seems the trend will continue for 2026 too with Buzz mentioning another new album in the works. When you look back there are very few years when a new Melvins studio release didn't actually come out. Have we reached a point now where we can expect a new Melvins album EVERY year? I mean the last few years we have had 2 records a year. Some on Ipecac some on AmRep. Do you think Buzz is eager to be productive while he still can or just a flurry of creativity?

Years with no studio release
1988
1990
1995
2003
2007
2009
2011
2015
2019
2020

I'd count Gift of Sacrifice for 2020. Can't remember when the first solo album was. But those really do scratch the itch.

Between collab records getting longer and more original, single artist cover albums in the mix, Melvins 83 firing hot, and albums generally being a tight thirty minutes..

Yeah. I do expect to be spoiled every year for a while.

I do too actually. I just didn't here because i knew someone would be "that's not a Melvins album!!". But yeah unlike with Dale, ALL the Buzz solo stuff i too consider Melvins material. Buzzo's first one was 2014. The same year as Hold It In.

They're certainly giving Zappa a run for his money!  It might be awhile before they catch up to Buckethead though lol

Also didn't 2007 have the cool Smash the State EP or was that 2008?

The APOD Tour Singles (which incl. Smash the State) & the Making Love Demos were released in 2007.  In 2015 the Melvins/Le Butcherettes split came out.

But they're NOT studio albums!

Reading is overrated. Apparently.

TheBloatedPopeDude

Were they not recorded in the studio? Were they recorded outside or live?  Smash the State is a studio album as far as I know.  Reading is overrated apparently.  Suck my balls bitch.

Colonel Cheese

Smash the State e.p. right there on the cover. I'd post a pic but I don't want to. Also i'm not a ball man.

An album is defined as "a collection of recordings issued as a single item on CD, record, or another medium".  How does it feel to be wrong all the time?  Just apologize for your nasty reading comment and move on dude.

Eggnog is an album and I will fight you all.

amazonAMAZON

No fight needed. Just tell me Bulls & Bees is an album, too. It'll settle my nerves. I love that little darling so deeply I almost can't breathe.

Probably not for every fan, but for me both Eggnog and Bulls, whilst technically EP's are both damn close to being albums. I can't quite fully think of them as albums but i have an hard time thinking of them as just EP's too. Hell, it's weird!
