either I totally missed this somehow, or I must've been high when it was posted first time around. some people told me it was on the dvd that idlehanz worked on — colossus of destiny. geeze, how come I didn't know one of my al-time favorite bands was once called the nurv? is this true? can someone confirm / share more info?

The Nurv - (Buzz Osborne, Matt Lukin and Mike Dillard) filmed in a Montesano garage in 1983 a month before they changed their name to The Melvins.  No one is sure which song The Nurv is playing in video, but original filmer added  Melvins'  "Walter's Lips" strictly as a placeholder and is not intended to be in sync.
Information from Johnny Dagnen (filmer and uploader).  Video was shot on 16mm in 1982 and forgotten about for ten years.  "Later in 1992 I read that Mudhoney had an upcoming concert at a venue in Hollywood. After confirming that Matt Lukin was indeed playing in this band, I thought this might be the very thing I needed to make good on this forgotten film I shot a long 10 years ago. I dusted off the old film cans, projected the silent 16mm images onto a white bed sheet so that I could shoot it on video. I then edited the video over the next two days with no actual Nurv music available with the intention of handing over the edited video to Matt Lukin at the concert.
The Mudhoney show was already sold out so I decided to take the backdoor approach. After getting a security guard's attention at backside of the venue, I told him my name and I asked if I could deliver something to one of the band members. He disappeared for about 10 minutes and later returned, opened the gate and led me and my girlfriend backstage underground. While descending a long, narrow, cavernous stairway I could the hear the thousands of fans above roaring in anticipation of the concert. The final step off the staircase opened into a full on beer-weed party with everybody in grunged-out wear, talking loudly.
Making my way through the mosh-pit of hangers-on and dark, green cloud I saw Matt Lukin. "Hey Matt," I said holding my hand out with a VHS tape labeled, "The Nurv." Chugged a beer or two down, then climbed back out of the backstage hole. That night I watched in amazement at the high-energy tight performance with Matt on bass, Mark Arm on vocals with regular and celebrity fans moshing around me. (my reaction: that 2-record, instructional "How to Play Acoustic Guitar" album set that I gave Matt years ago back in high school really worked! 🙂 ) To say I was blown away is an understatement and I now officially considered myself part of this grunge movement. Soon Soundgarden, Melvins, Alice in Chains. Pearl Jam and many more bands started flooding my ears with new music.
People in the video - Buzz Osborne, Matt Lukin, Mike Dillard, Doug Purser, Debra Purser as the cop, Kelly Berschauer as the record store clerk, Denise McAlpine for the headlights.
I had since lost that video but fortunately the copy I handed Matt that night made it's circulation around his community as footage from the video popped up 25 years later in a documentary movie in 2017 called The Colossus Of Destiny, a Melvin's Tale. I've since retrieved the full edited copy of the film I shot back in 1982. (information from Johnny Dagnen)
