Saw the show in Northhampton. Set was pretty much the same as Boston, though Jelvins played several DK songs not mentioned in previous posts, califormia uber alles, chemical warfare.
The Jello stuff was ok, and it was fun to see jello doing his thing, but I have to say I wish the melvins/jelvins order and set length were reversed. POTRE was AMAZING. The songs from Maggot, Bootlicker and Houdini were great too. Let it all be, live, is really really incredible. Dave Stone sounded great. Hope they get a permanent new bass player soon.
I got bored about halfway through the jello set, but I should mention I'm pretty old and straight-up punk doesn't really do it for me anymore.Live, it's really easy to tell which songs are written by buzz and which by jello. I have a lot of respect for Jello and the flag jacket is pretty funny, I just don't need it live so much. Melvins live is a different story, easily one of the best live bands I've ever seen and I've been going to shows since the early 80's. Hmmm. Melvins are actually one of two bands I'll drive to see, the other is Fantomas.
It reminded me of a couple years ago when Melvins were touring with tomahawk, and utterly blew them away playing too short of a set. Last night I watched the melvins blow themselves away. I'll be looking forward to the next Melvins headlining tour.
