no, but trying to intellectualize music or articulate it in a intellectual way is just a waste of time.

At the end of the day, music is supposed to represent a feeling. Associating that feeling with an idea dilutes the feeling.

Would you not agree that classical music is an intellectual form of music or is conducive for producing an intellectual environment? I associate classical music with intellect. I know a great many people that listen to classical music when wanting an environment to concentrate in order to work.

i listen to ambient/ some noise stuff for this reason, helps the creativity, almost inspires. i hate the word intellectual though.

If one is intellectual it should humble you and not puff you up. Pride mixed with intellectualism is not a good thing. I consider myself reasonably intellectual with much of it from autodidactic pursuits but I always like to share what I come to know without any sort of pretentious attitude because I feel its the proper way to be with knowledge. For instance, my son is taking a German language course at school and he and I are going over what he learned for the day and I am attempting to retain it. I think German is a cool language. My interest in that is because of my family's German heritage. Intellectual pursuits can help you.

I think the two tend to be associated together rightly or wrongly. Of course being an avid fan of classical music does not necessarily predicate intellect. An individual that likes hardcore dance or a commonly considered lesser valued genre could be just as (or more) well versed. In terms of perception of intellect, it reminds me of something i read years ago that went along the lines of "speed of thought is no indicator of depth of knowledge."
